The Want Ad Digest also has lotsa pistols, rifles, shotguns listed for sale every week. I follow it regularly and have noticed that at least once a week there is a NYS illegal gun listed. I wonder if the owners know what they are doing?

Well, this one at least is sort of a win, or as much as one could hope for in these cases anyway. Normally when I tell a seller that his/her gun isn't legal I generally get told that he/she knows better, his uncle said it was ok, or one kind of MYOB blow off or another. In this case the seller responded to me with this message, and I'm sharing it publicly (minus the names)

Thanks for the primer on NYS laws. I will put the old stock on it and sell the aftermarket stock detached from the gun preferably to someone who doesnt live in NY.

Well, because one out of every ten times someone will listen and learn a thing or two like this guy/gal. Maybe they'll be more careful in the future and learn the laws. Less people getting arrested for "assault weapons" in the news is a good thing for all of us.

I don't know all the laws and sure appreciate when someone on here offers to educate me to a law. They don't know me personally on here, but people are still willing to help with answers to questions I have no clue about. I think helping a stranger or a friend is a good thing, isn't that what this forum is about?

One would think so.....:err:

I'm not saying the person selling it does or doesn't know the laws......BUT it would be kinda wrong to sit and talk about how illegal it is without letting the person know and maybe see them get popped for a felony if indeed they don't know the laws.....Only takes a min to send the seller a message,I did and it didn't waste my day......Just sayin'....

UPDATE: See,now I just got a nice email from the seller thanking me,he indeed didn't know the laws and changed his ad.......Mission accomplished
