So today's dive was in Lake Champlain. High wind so we couldn't get on the wrecks, but we did a few wall dives. Can't complain.

But here is something I can complain about. On the way home, we were coming down the Northway. I'm in the passenger seat, and we have our instructor driving and a buddy in the back. Around exit 28 or so we start seeing "Temporary Reduced Speed" zones. First, 45, then 30...weird. Then I see a sign for mandatory truck inspections. Well, that sucks, but we aren't a truck, so OK. And then BAM. The INTERSTATE is STOPPED (i.e. there is a STOP sign on the INTERSTATE). Who else but the border patrol? That is one of the most absurd things I've ever seen. Now, all 3 of us in the car are not huge fans of violations like this. I told everyone else in the car "I don't even have my ID, so they better not ask." I had it, but F them. We get up to the illegal gestapo papers please checkpoint border checkpoint...about 100 miles from the border, and the cop asks "Everyone in this vehicle American citizens?" My buddies say yes, I say nothing. Guess that was good enough. And then "What you got in the bed (of the truck)?" Now, my buddies aren't as elegant with standing up for their rights, whereas I would have said "I'm sorry, unfortunately I do not answer any questions." I'm trying to inform them. But anyway, the driver says "SCUBA stuff and depleted uranium. You want some?" The cop says "Nope, just get that stuff out of here." Funny guy. Not really, but this brings up 2 points:

1. Hell yeah! Easy stop! No hassle, therefor that makes this minor intrusion OK! (NO!)

2. Umm...that is the "check" you perform? I.e. nothing? So therefor you are an ENTIRELY useless violation of our rights? You have absolutely no valid reason to be there? Then go away. In fact, just go away.

I'd never seen this before, I'd I'm disgusted. And before anyone goes on about the "Well courts decided that the border patrol can..." I do not care. Courts have also upheld SAFE. I don't care what the crooked courts think on this matter.

Yup used to run into them all the time traveling South from Plattsburgh. Now I hop off 31 and drive south on 9N, to avoid this Nazi crap.

He got stopped near Lake George, that's 80+ miles south of the Canadian border. I would be annoyed too.

I've been through at least 5 of these BP "check-points" near The 'Hood in the Northern Wood. No problems, but the pseudo-legal 100 mile "Constitution-free" zone pi$$es me off. People sneaking across the border aren't going to travel any the major state or federal highways unless their car, "cover" and documents are in top-notch order.

Just conditioning the prols for the future.

It is VERY well known that this happens on the Northway. Most illegals just avoid the Northway all together.

Not sure from how far north you were traveling from, but you can hop on 9N at exit 31 (traveling south) , drive through Westport, Port Henry, Crown Point and then Ticonderoga, where you take route 74 back to 87 (by passing the check point). Couple other scenic routes to take as well.

9N is a LONG winding road though. I drove from Just above Lake George village to Roger's Rock campground on 9N a few weekend's ago and man does that take a while.

I typically get on 87 from about exit 15 for most things, but today we headed up more north up 30 and across 8 to exit 26 and started up 87.

It's really funny this topic came up today! 9N is not gonna do you any damn good either. Here is why!

I was on lake george today and took 9n all the way from the village to Hague which is most of the way to the north end of the lake. Well on my way there I saw the boarder patrol and was like WTF are they doing here. They didn't have the road blocked off at the time but they were up to no good that's for sure. I've had enough of this police state already!!!

No one is in favor of the illegals flooding this country! Looking for them 100 miles away and stopping the god damn northway is just absolutely absurd!!!! You may be able to do that to the peasants where you come from but that **** doesn't fly up here! besides the entire southern boarder to mexico is wide open and we are worried about Canada! Seems more like an excuse to exercise your police state mentality to me then really checking for illegals! What a joke!!!

Now consider this: If they never ever found any illegal activity, they would stop doing it. So I can reasonably presume there is some reason for it, even if it is not apparent to you. And I can also reasonably presume that it is at least somewhat productive, else they would not be doing it.

Just keep in mind, for all any of us know they could have had a tip about the PA shooter being in the area, or been assisting in a search for escaped prisoners.

I am simply saying, don't assume. LE Agencies do cooperate with each other when necessary.
