I bought a Saiga sporter to start the build. Some people think I'm crazy wanting to turn a semi auto in a bolt action. I don't really care. I want an Ak 74 clone.

In regards to parts, I can legally purchase stock sets with pistol grips, muzzle brakes, and bayonet lugs, right? just so long as I don't put them on a semi automatic rifle? I want to buy the parts, then I want to send the parts and the rifle to a gunsmith (which I found who is willing to do it), have him build it, and bring the rifle back here.

There are no laws I would be violating here, right?

Awesome. that's great to hear. The only reason I asked was because I saw this website selling Ak 74 parts kits and they said they didn't ship them to NY. it didn't make sense to me because there was no receiver or barrel that came with the kit.

Anyway thanks man

Relax and take a valium.

I even called the NY gun laws hotline to verify it was legal. I talked to DSI staff (where I bought the Saiga) and the guys there did work on straight pull AR 15s. They CONVERTED semi auto neutered AR 15s to bolt action AR 15s with "assault weapon" features.

if your gonna at least give me false information, do it without being a dick

NY Safe Act states nowhere that you can't convert a semi auto (non "assault weapon) into a bolt action gun with "assault weapon" features.

The only issue i see with a strait pull is a run in with an LEO in the field, there is no way for the leo to determin its compliant. On the AK, the only way is to look down the bore if there is a gas hole.....
that's true, but the only time an LEO would see my rifle is at the gun range where I can present him how it functions.
