Hi I just moved from PA to NY and I noticed how NY gun laws suck...I had a Hipoint 9mm in PA and I loved that gun..it was really fun to shoot ..and I've been trying to find out if it can be modified for NY... now I know I've seen pictures of ones that had a paddle grip and no threaded barrel .. I'm not sure about the clip in the grip.. is there any one out there that knows for sure..NY and CA have alot of the same laws and I see CA compliant Hipoint carbines all the time???

Detachable magazine and semi-fully automatic was declared ver boten by fuhrer Cuomo and is still being enforced by Frau hochul
Sorry but not true. You can have a semi-auto and detachable magazine as long as it has no other features like a pistol grip, muzzle device, bayonet lug, adjustable stock.
Has to look like this

I was not referring to that abortion.. a highpoint carbine has a pistol grip and a detachable magazine.. hence my verboten comment..

So hypothetically if I were to move to NYS, my stock M&P 15 Sport II 5.56 would be illegal and I couldn't even register it? It has a telescopic stock, pistol grip, bayonet lug, threaded barrel with a flash hider, and I have many 30 round mags to boot. How severe are the penalties if caught ? Or does it vary by jurisdiction?

Yes it is illegal.

No you can't register it..

It is a felony, so you would lose your gun rights, and face jail time, with mandatory minimum sentencing because it's a gun crime.

That is a statewide thing.

This and it’s that bad. It’s actually multiple felonies for each the firearm and the over capacity mags. You could get up to 10 years I believe for each offense. My brother is a cop and he just arrested a felony for an unregistered pistol and he was sentenced to 4.5 years so most never get the maximum. Also if I remember correctly sometimes if it is in your home they will plea it down or charge you with a misdemeanor but that may only be with unloaded pistols.
I also don’t think they would charge you with a felony count for each violation. By that I mean your scary MP rifle violated the law in many ways and I don’t think you’d be charged with a felony for the pistol grip, the flash suppressor, the bayonet lug and so on.

I hope to hell the AWB is squashed soon. Even my kids think it’s ridiculous. I bought a .22lr AR and I was showing my son and he said oh dad is that a 25 round mag since it’s a .22? I said no Simon just looks like it, only 10 rounds. He’s 19 so I let him check it out and he immediately went to drop the mag and said this doesn’t work does it? I said no son has to be fixed mag… he was disappointed and said well that sucks. I raised the boy right.

You guys answered my questions. My scary(haha)M&P is out of the box, not Guccied up at all, and could still be illegal on many counts. IMO, a state registry is a 2 A violation. NYS obviously takes it seriously.

I always laughed when anyone mentioned a Hi Point as they were(IMO) bottom of the barrel. A buddy of mine who knows firearms bought a HP 9mm carbine and says it shoots great. I may stand to be corrected.
