Hey folks,
So I have been looking for a few bags of refactory cement in high heat like 3000+ degrees for a small kiln or furnace to melt metals like aluminum and such. Having a heck of a time finding it locally in 55lb bags or even commercially. Any one out there know of a place locally, like somewhere in wny that would sell it? I have went through the phone book calling with no luck! I would order it on line but imagine the cost of shipping 110lbs of cement will be! Eeeeekkkkk!

Well even if you don't I appreciate the views and such.

After thinking about it for a minute you may be able to make your own too.

At the block yard you can get heat stop, the clay mortar we use to stack flues inside of chimneys. It comes either premixed or dry and bagged, and its basically just some type of fire clay.

You could possibly whip up a batch using the bagged mix, some washed sand, and maybe some black beauty (obsidian I think) course blasting ballast as aggregate.

I am however but a humble mason, and I like to experiment with stuff like that, so take my ideas as simply that. An idea.
