I am currently in the military stationed in virginia. in virginia you dont need a permit to buy a gun or to own one. but when i move back to nys what will i have to do in order to get it back. i know i will have to have a ffl holder send it to one in nys but with the whole permit thing what do i have to do for that?

do you have a NYS pistol permit? if not yet you may want to consider selling the pistol in VA and buying new when you have permit in hand. Not sure if you really want to keep it or have an FFL that will hold it months for low or no fees.

Have the pistol kept out of state. Move here. Do the permit process (4-6+months) then have the FFL ship them to your new FFL in ny and have them all added to your permit in NY. Most everyone will say "Stay in VA because it sucks here", so allow me to begin:

Stay in VA because it sucks here.

If you want give me a ring. If you intend to stay in NY (your choice) and apply for a permit I will hold the gun for you until you get your permit. Just a couple of things, you pay the shipping and handgun mag capacity has to be 10 round unless preban.
