An EMF New Dakota (made in Italy by Armi San Marco) in 45 Long Colt should be on its way to my FFL very soon. Probably around 15 years old, it has been poorly refinished, and has a minor (I hope) timing issue. I like to work on guns, but I've never even had a revolver, so this should be a challenge.

I've been doing a lot of reading, and with the condition of the finish, I'm thinking about redoing this gun in a rust blue.

I haven't tried to find 45LC locally, and I'm wondering what I'm going to have to pay. Has anyone bought ammo online recently? Did you have to have it shipped to an "ammo dealer"? If so, how much did that cost you?

I won't really know what I have until this gun arrives, I'm looking forward to getting my hands on it!

I've included the 4 pics I have of the gun, as well as a pic showing what it should have looked like when new. Notice the blued barrel and cylinder, and the color case hardened frame, have both been refinished in some sort of flat black, but not a very sturdy finish, whatever it is (judging by the scratches and nicks.) Also, while the original gun has the brass grip frame/trigger guard in darkened brass, this gun has the brass bright (not a look I like, because it's "fake authentic", trying to look "old timey" but they didn't make them like that back then.) I plan to darken the brass, as well as refinish the gun.

But first I'll fix the timing, get the gun shooting as well as I can, and run some ammo through it!

For some reason, I've suddenly got an urge to re-watch "Silverado", "Open Range", and "Unforgiven"!

You can buy ammo on line but you have to find an FFL to complete the transaction . I'm not sure what the transaction fee will cost as they vary but 45 LC is stocked because some of the Taurus judges shoot the same cartridge . My 454 Casul can shoot both 454 , 45 LC so I reload them , it's cheaper . That's my take on it . I hope you are happy with your new pistol .

I've been eyeballing an Uberti at my LGS. How is it that these classic Americana guns are coming out of Italy? Don't get me wrong, I love me an Eyetalian, just saying...

Also watch the Quick and the Dead for good gunslinger movies.

After reading about your new single action army . There are some of those guns not allowed here in this state . There is something to do with melt point of the frame . Some of these pistols have a zinc frame and it's unlawful . You might want to check into that as some of the Uberti,s aren't allowed here . That just came to mind after doing some research .

Zinc framed guns are legal in NY. Illinois, Hawaii, and Wisconsin outlaw them. South Carolina did outlaw them, but I think that law was recalled.

I don't think Uberti ever made a zinc-framed gun, though. They make some of the very best quality reproduction firearms, which are favorites of the cowboy reenactors, as well as the civil war reenactors.

Chiappa in Italy does make a zinc-alloy framed 22 single action revolver, but the most popular one currently is the Heritage Arms Rough Rider 22, which is 100% made in USA. They even make a more-expensive all-steel frame model, for those states that outlaw the zinc framed guns. Heritage Arms also makes some bigger replica guns like the one I'm getting, but they just assemble and finish those in the US, the parts come from Pietta in Italy. I know they come in 38 spl/357 mag, don't know about 45 Long Colt.

I'd like one of the Rough Rider 22 revolvers (if I could find one for the right price), great plinking guns (if you can find 22LR, that is!)
