Gabby Giffords's Husband Buys AR-15

By AWR Hawkins & Neil McCabe - 9 Mar 2013
Mark E. Kelly, gun-control proponent and husband to former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, recently purchased an AR-15 (an "assault weapon," he called it)-which he now says he intended as an illustration of the need for more stringent gun laws.Kelly reportedly bought the AR-15 and a 1911-style semi-automatic pistol at a gun store in Tucson, Arizona.
Breitbart News received a tip on this when Neil McCabe, editor of Guns & Patriots newsletter, contacted us on March 7 and said:
Mark E. Kelly, made purchases which included an AR-15--sometimes described as an "assault rifle"--at 3:30 pm on the afternoon of March 5 at Diamondback Police Supply, 170 S. Kolb Street, Tucson, AZ.
According to McCabe, witnesses to the purchases claimed Kelly purchased "high capacity" magazines as well.
On March 6, McCabe contacted Kelly's gun control group--"Americans for Responsible Solutions"--and on March 8 they replied that his message had been passed on to colleagues who handle press requests. Breitbart News then began investigating the details surrounding the purchase, including visiting the gun store.
Suddenly, Kelly announced on his Facebook page that he was not going to keep the AR-15, which he has yet to pick up from the store.
Days after making the purchases, Kelly wrote on Facebook:
I just had a background check a few days ago when I went to my local gun store to buy a .45. As I was leaving, I noticed a used AR-15. Bought that too. Even to buy an assault weapon, the background check only takes a matter of minutes. I don't have possession of it yet but I'll be turning it over to the Tucson PD when I do.
Testifying to the Senate Judiciary Committee Jan. 30, Kelly had urged senators to restrict sales firearms based on their lethality--a common refrain with other witnesses that day, who argued that semi-automatic weapons, which chamber subsequent rounds as bullets are fired, and other guns with military-style features level the playing field against law enforcement.
Kelly and Giffords founded their own advocacy group to restrict gun rights, Americans for Responsible Solutions, in January. On its website, ARS wrote: "High capacity magazines are a deadly factor in gun violence." A 30-round magazine is considered a high-capacity magazine.
The ARS website says: "Congress should act to limit the sale of high capacity magazines, which are not needed for hunting or self-defense, but have proven very lethal."
Similarly, the ARS website says: "Congress should act to limit the sale of assault weapons.
In February, Kelly told Fox News Sunday's Chris Wallace that lawmakers need to address "assault weapons." He said the purpose of an "assault weapon" is "to kill a lot of people very quickly," and he lamented that such products were "too readily available."
Kelly has not commented on whether he will also return the .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol he purchased.

So he is going to but the AR -and then turn it into the police? Why? Now he is running his own gun buy back program I guess. Shove it Mr. Astronaut. Very sorry about what happened to Gabby, but taking our guns away won't do anything to prevent that from happening again. Stick to retirement and go enjoy your golden years. Kiss our ass and go away.

I am flabbergasted by this sentence. He buys guns. He knows how background checks work.

Also, he must go to a store with a short line; I had to wait nearly 12 hours for my bolt-action .22 on Black Friday. Maybe the federal government was trying to decide whether my Marlin was WAY MORE DANGEROUS than the other guns on the rack? That must have been what the delay was about.

The FUD is thick with this one.

So he buys a gun, has a background check done and walks out but still complains the process is too easy? Should there be a different background check for an AR? Just what in the holly hell is he talking about?

He is basically arguing then that buying an AR should be made difficult background check or not. Maybe he thinks the requirement should be that you are an astronaut?
Right, what an idiot, and I thought this guy was smart, why would we need different background checks for different weapons? Oh, you only want a .22, well we will just give you the quick background check. But you, Mr. assault weapon purchaser (funny because you have NEVER been able to buy an assault weapon in the US anyway), you must go through a special extra background check, then stand on your head for ten minutes, and we must keep you on "double secret probation."

This guy is a "tool" just like all the rest of the antis!!
They just don't get it!!
How about this you moron: ENFORCE THE LAWS THAT HAVE BEEN ON THE BOOKS FOR A LOOOONNNG TIME AS THEY PERTAIN TO GUN CRIMES!!
Get some balls and start putting the real criminals behind bars where they belong! The problem with that solution is that these political pukes wouldn't have anybody left to vote for them because all their supporters would be in prison!!

I hope he paid top dollar for that AR.

He never said he was going to give back the 1911 or the magazines. So I guess they're okay to keep.

I watched him on a senate debate, I wasn't to impressed with him. The biggest ass on the panel was the police chief from Baltimore, a small marine type of puke. Always going back to assult weapons and ten shot magazines. They distort the facts and shove their lies down the average persons throat that doesn't know anything about guns.
My congressman is anti-gun, I sent him an e mail and got the "We have to protect our citizens from these high capacity mags andassualt weapons" ,So I sent him another e mail Thursday, Friday I missed a phone call from Washington DC. If it's him or his office calling I'm going to tell him to go FU(K HIMSELF!. I am so sick & tired of the god dam bleading heart, lieing, liberal democraps. Everything that comes out of their mouth is a lie.

By buying the AR with the intention of giving it to another, isn't this a straw purchase?
No. Buying an AR with the intent to give it to someone unqualified to possess it is.

"These weapons are designed to kill large groups of people quickly."...What large groups of people are the cops getting ready to mow down? o_O
