I was having a problem with my "session" timing out. Meaning I read too slow, take too much time on a lengthy thread and the site logs me out. Read somewhere to click the "remember me" box when logging in to prevent this.

Well now I have a new problem. Reading a lengthy thread, and replying to it. Then finding every other thread on the forum has been marked as read.

Any chance you could adjust this time out a tad for us slow readers?

TIA

Well that is odd. I'm using Firefox 15.0, but I'm not sure any settings I'm using could cause this. And the problem only occurs on this forum (I'm a member of tons of other forums).

I don't have that problem either. I have the Remember Me box checked where you log in. I don't know if that would help or not.

I am using the latest version of firefox without issue on my end. As far as reading a post for a while and hitting whats new and the old ones being gone that you havent read I have the same problem. All I do is hit last page button on browser to go back to look at the other forums. Then once I catch up I use the whats new button again.

If you check 'today's threads' or 'new posts' to find fresh stuff, piddle around in one reading slow/replying/wandering off to wee/whatever, then hit the 'new' button again it effectively refreshes the whole list as its based on what is new since the last search, not the last time you visited or the last thing you looked at.
IOW, it dumps everything off the initial list because it is seeking new items since that list was generated.

If you want to maintain the list long enough to get through it, you need to back up when done with a thread or post, not do a 'new posts' or 'today's threads' relist.

If you use the Today's Posts menu at the top of the page instead of New Posts, you get a list of new posts even if you have been to the site, left, then returned, not just a list of posts since your last visit.

I thought I was the only one who had this issue. I too like to read the new posts when I first log on but I only have so much time until they are all "read". If you reply to a post and hit the back button, it seems to mark all of your unread posts to read. No time limit adjustment in the administrator settings?

I don't use the today's posts or new posts links. I simply use the back button when I'm done with a thread.

So, here is my trick..... I log in and click on "new post", I then click on the last page (I'm only on when at work so there are usually several pages) and read the threads from oldest to newest. Instead of left clicking on the thread and opening it up, I right click and open in a new tab. Then when I am done reading or replying I just close that tab, and bingo the other page is right where I left it. This apparenttly confuses what ever it is that decides what is new and old.

A few people have complained about this. I have trouble figuring it out because I can't reproduce it. I will look into it again when I'm not reading.g on my phone.

This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
