F-15 fighters scrambled towards unresponsive Rochester flight | wivb.com

WIVB said:
WASHINGTON (AP) - An Air Force official says two F-15 fighter jets were scrambled after the pilot of a private plane over the Atlantic Ocean failed to respond to air traffic controllers.

A NORAD spokesman says the fighters were launched at 11:30 EDT Friday after the pilot of a private plane repeatedly failed to respond to calls from air traffic controllers.

The spokesman says the pilot filed a flight plan to fly from Rochester, New York, to Naples, Florida.

The plane is a Socata TBM700 is a high performance single-engine turboprop.
The story has already made national news. Apparently the plane from Rochester is already in Cuban airspace...

NORAD jet fighters trail plane over Atlantic Ocean - CNN.com
The windows, according to a NORAD spokesman, were frosted and it was unknown how much fuel was left.

This is the same scenario that we heard about when Payne Stewart's charter flight crashed in 1999 (some sort of rapid depressurization causing all abord to become hypoxic and possibly die while the plane continues on autopilot until the fuel runs out).

According to CNN, the pilot was seen slumped over and the frosted windows are a sign of decompression. The small aircraft does have autopilot capabilities (it's been on a razor-straight path) and my thoughts are the pilot likely suffered a heart attack, stroke, or some other health-related emergency and may no longer be alive in that aircraft. The plane is likely running on fumes at this point and it will end up nosing into the water (or island) within the next hour (or less).

Good thing it's not a Malaysian Airway's plane. That would make it the worst year for that airline ever.
