is it legal? The only piece that concerns me is that fact that it can be "stacked" which I'm guessing means another compensator can be screwed into it. Does anyone run one of these or think it would or would not be legal in NY? I gave the manufacturer a call just now, but had to leave a voicemail :(

Threaded barrels are illegal to prevent us from attaching a silencer. I don't see how the ability to stack multiple comps could be seen as having the ability attach a silencer, but then again this is just a lay opinion.

On the other hand, there's lot of comps available and this one isn't exactly the most popular.

Looks like a bold attempt. I got an ARES 80% lower and they make a good product. Their customer service is weak and their email must be on a 48 hour delay loop, though.

Doesn't make sense to use one....Exposed threads are a bad idea and could lead to trouble..! Like my good friend Cgrutt said there are many other great options out there like this one, check it out...! It is a JP Cooley Comp....

With a few exceptions anything Advanced Armament, Surefire, AICS pre-set brakes and barrel, double threaded, etc.. or anything for that matter that might be consider constructive possession you want to stay away from it.
Another thing that EFIN "compensator" is not a good idea in the first place. Cool but inefficient. Tested that one on a dynamometer along with dozens of others. Very hard to clean after being pinned too. Sorry NY.
