At some point I'd like to replace the cheap-o Uncle Mikes Super Belt Slide 8616 holster I picked up for $15 for something more gooder. But before I plunk down $70 for a DeSantis DHS/ICE holster (see below)... need some opinions from those of you on the heavier side of the BMI scale...

I'm 6'0", 245#, got a beer gut, love handles - but I'm also broad shouldered. A body by Budweiser.

I'm left-handed... if I carry at 7:30 - I print like a NY Times press, but it's comfortable for sitting, driving, etc. Obviously my love handles are pushing the gun out at the sides and to me the printing is pretty obvious. Maybe others don't notice (I tried this in the liberal bastion of Ithaca the other day and no screams of "HE'S GOT A GUN!!!!!" from the hippies and socialists dining alongside me in Chipotle.

Moving it forward to the 10:00 position, forward cant, virtually no printing, but sitting down can be a bit uncomfortable. Drawing is a bit awkward - but some dry runs shows it isn't a huge deal. Tried the high-ride slot and it prints and it's not too comfortable. Any tips or ideas? Walking/standing - works great. Sitting, not so great. The gun is a SIG P239. Tried IWB - too uncomfortable. Gun is too large for pocket carry. Don't care much for ankle of shoulder rigs either and a girdle is out of the question!! I just gotta get my fat ass back to the gym and make the 30 lbs I gained over the past 2 years disappear and stick with the program!

WARNING: Don't let your wives see this next picture lest they get all hot and bothered by my killer bod...

I'm the same size basically except i just lost 15 pounds so I'm don to 229. Anywho, IWB is the way to go, 1 size larger in the pants. I very highly recommend the Foxx leather.

Well, first off a good holster and a proper gun belt will do wonders. I can't be sure, but from that picture I would guess you're using a common thin leather belt instead of a purpose-made gun belt. Secondly, (and I've said this so many times to so many people over the years) is that if you're going to be carrying a gun bigger than a pocket .380 a gun you have to consider dressing around it. Lose the t-shirts, and go with something like somewhat looser fitting button down shirts. The added bonus is that you always look a little bit dressier too.. heh. I'm 6'1, also about 245 but with a little bit different build, and I have never been 'made' in 14 years of carry wearing a full size 1911 OWB under a nice button down shirt (my everyday wardrobe).

buy a bigger pant size, I'm 5' 7" 200lb and I used to have the same problem as you until I finally got a size bigger pants (hated it! I want smaller pants dammit not bigger ones.) the gun disappeared after that.

I'm about the same size as you. I have no problem with an XL t-shirt. Jut can't wear the short shirts from Old Navy and some stores.

I've got more of a body by Sam Adams then Bud; more in the belly and less on the sides. Love my Crossbreed supertuck IWB with matching belt. Wear tee shirts all the time without any issues. Oh, and nice tie-dye; blending in with the hippies and commies I see ;)

I am 5'11" 228lbs (thank you Jack Daniels, I carry a 1911 IWB at the 7:30 ish/8 (left handed also). Holster and belt by Alessi gun holsters. The belt and holster can be a little pricey but they are both so very comfortable. The belt is custom sized you need a 38.5" belt that's what they will do. The only uncomfortable part with the way I carry is driving but I just put the firearm in the center console until I get to where I'm going, then reholster.

Wow, there is a lot of "big" dudes here. Thanks for making me feel fit and trim. I own three different DeSantis holsters, love them all. I carry both IWB and OWB depending on the day, mood and activity. I just dress around what I decide that day. I wear shorts and T-shirt most of the time. Again thanks for making me feel better.

I'm a big fan of the IWB in the small of my back. For drawing purposes, I had to get a left handed one.

I have a rather large 9mm and with a nice leather belt, I can wear tshirts all day long and be rather comfortable.

I'm not 100% sure but have a supertuck and would highly recommend it along with the sized belt. I believe the j clips are the standard clips that fit over the top of the belt, and are therefore visible unless covered. I think (not sure) that the v clips are velcro clips that attach underneath the belt so they are not visible. The j clips are fine and when matched to the belt fit perfectly and securely. FWIW, I went with the horse hide and combat cut options from the start and am very pleased with the rig. Good luck.

Damn it! You beat me to it. I was going to say the reason the hippies in Ithaca didn't scream gun was because they thought you were one of them!

Standarg clips go over the top and front of the belt and bend back over the bottom of the belt. They don't "curl back up under" the bottom of the belt though.

V clips are velcro straps.

J clips go behind the BACK of the belt (between the belts and pants) and CURL UP UNDER the belt to the front.

In your opinion, how so? It's a pretty open ended statement.
Personally, I like it. I wear a lot of t shirts, and it's completely undetected. Not the most comfortable when I drive, but I just deholster.
It's the worst place on your waist-line to get a fast draw from.
10:00<--->2:00 are the fastest, simply less distance for your hands to move.

Not just fast draw, but while seated (car, restaurant, subway, whatever), to create a distraction with off hand while drawing strong hand (wait a minute buddy, don't hurt me, back off, here take my money, etc) or while down on the ground because you were just struck from behind, sucker punched, shot, etc). Have to agree (strongly) that small of back is not optimal. I usually carry just south of 3 o'clock. Went to Fort Ticondaroga last weekend in shorts and a tee shirt. At one point, my wife says to me that she could tell I'm carrying which made me a little self conscious. After making sure the gun was still under my tee shirt, I started looking around and am certain that the 100s of visitors that were there had absolutely no clue I was carrying. Again, recommend the supertuck without hesitation.
