I think the article is a bit misleading, especially since it refers to my neck of the woods. What they call "wetlands" are most likely lands that are near the NYC Watershed which you can develop with certain stipulations. Also the Town of Thompson encompasses the Village of Monticello where the good mayor Gordon Jenkins (proud member of MAIG) has made a career to trying to one-up Toronto's Robert Ford on descipableness and corruption (selling counterfeit goods out of his store, punching his own village cops, appointing his girlfriend as a village trustee, paying friends to illegally dispose of asbestos from a village building, and most recently getting brought in for a DUI and going on a racial shouting match calling all the black cops "Uncle Tom's" and shouting racial slurs at the white cops...just to name a few).
Also, anyone who has lived in the Catskills for the past 30+ years has seen is that the Hasdic Jews are pretty much buying up all the land and taking it off the tax rolls for religious exemptions. I wonder how they'll feel about their new Chinese neighbors?
Oh and don't forget the casino that's likely coming to Monticello too. Wow, I guess my sleepy little town just got a whole lot more interesting!
