Just got back from the Schenectady county permit office. Had to get my latest addition on my permit.
I was informed that from now on we need to call for an appointment for the amendments and that their hours have changed.
Also, that the permit application paperwork is now available on line.

you have to make an appointment but don't you get a pick up coupon the same day. In my county i have to wait 2-6 weeks. I'd take appointments over that.

I can't speak of the policies in the western part of the state but I know that Schenectady Co pistol dept is one of the most user friendly depts in the state. Essex might be the exception. I think they bring coffee and donuts to you. I concur that if an appt to go and give your receipt to get an amendment the same day is too much then you should try getting an amendment in Albany or Saratoga Co. Might change your opinion.

I personally see no need for it as every time I have gone in there the place is empty.Do you have to make an appointment at DMV? I will agree though excluding these recent changes and the new jump through hoops process for attempting to apply for un restricted carry, all of my experiences there have been pleasant. The office girls are very nice and courteous!

Yes, its correct that you have to make an appointment - however you do get the coupon on the spot. Just call 518-388-4225, their hours are 915 am to 415 pm Mon thru Fri. They are closed from 1145 to 115.

Still one of the more user friendly counties around for pistols in NY.
