CBC members push police czar idea - Lucy McCalmont - POLITICO.com

How come every time I hear Rep. Elijah Cummings say something, I cringe? And of course, Barbara Lee also has signed onto this idea. Between the two of them, a goldfish still has a higher IQ.

The idea of creating a national police czar is pushing the federalization a bit too far. Even creating a national standard for police responses is absurd. Each region has its own challenges - Urban vs Rural policing is different, Equipment and training for Miami is going to be different than for Alaska, etc.

This government always wants to appoint a "Czar" like in Russian.... Hmmm... What a coincidence.

Without a federal czar to "oversee" local law enforcement how in the world will those constitutional sheriffs ever be brought into line??? How is it that we no longer have 50 independent states and only to become 50 arms of the federal government. Can anyone tell me of anything that is really a state controlled issue anymore???

How about NO.

They're already working towards this with the arming of all federal agencies, effectively creating a federal police force directly under the control of the executive branch. Federalizing existing domestic police forces was what Nazi Germany did, The Gestapo were ordinary policeman prior to this.

Sorry, no deal.

How about if we just disband all current LEO and call in the Army to patrol the streets. Oh wait....nevermind....that's already happening.

Czar, common core, national ID card, national gun registration; anything centrally mandated, run, organized or coordinated is a symptomatic warning of socialism on the rise and the individuals surrender of free thought.

I tend to be a little more liberal than most around here, but the idea of preventing another Ferguson is crazy. Totally over looking the possibility that the police officer did what he had to do? Innocent until proven guilty? Sad when the people we want to protect us are considered guilty and bad before all the facts are out.

Well put. And though it will take time to determine whether this was a legal shoot or not, one thing is certain. When you start your morning with a strong arm robbery and then punch an armed man in the head, your day probably isn't going to turn out very well. As a society, we really shouldn't be taking extra measures to specially protect the belligerent and violent among us. Hundreds of millions of people got up that day and avoided confrontation, obeying the unwritten social contract.

Don't want to lose a fight?

Then don't start one.
