Hello fellow Broome County residents! I'm in the market for an accurate and reliable 9mm meeting certain criteria. I've narrowed my search to the following models:

Beretta 92A1
Beretta Px4 Storm
S&W M&P
S&W M&P Pro 5"
Ruger SR9

Is there anyone in the area who has one or more of these? If so, I'd love a chance to try one out. If anyone is willing we could work out the details but I could bring my own ammo and I maybe buy you lunch for your time.

If getting first hand experience is not possible, I would not mind testimonials on these.

Ok, lets try another avenue. Does anyone know a range within an hour of Broome county where I might be able to rent some 9mms? If not within an hours drive, does anyone know where the closest one would be?

The ranges I know do not rent any guns. Your best bet is to find a friend who has them. I doubt anyone here that does not know you will allow you to shoot their guns especially hand guns. I'm not saying you are a bad person but no one knows who you are. I believe you should check out across the boarder or see if any other ranges that are not in our area has such places other than that you would have to purchase the firearm and then shoot it to see if you like it.

I would carry it... maybe.. once in a while... but I'm pretty sure I can conceal a 92FS so long as I'm not sitting a whole lot. I do plan on getting something slightly smaller for a carry piece later on. This gun is mostly focused on home defense and potentially action shooting sports at some point in the future.

If you are looking for a home defense/ IDPA gun I would go with the M&P from the choices you listed. You can shoot it in stock service pistol. I htink the pro model would be enhanced service pistol. If you were looking to shoot IPSC I can't comment on the classes as I have never shot it. I can't comment on the SR9 but I have read good things about it and tired to get one awhile back but none were in stock. I also really like the Beretta 92 and if you were not thinking about the shooting sports I would recommend it. The SA/DA pull gives some people issues as you have to learn two different pulls. For home defense and idpa the standard M&P would be tough to beat. It's not impossible to conceal either. A G17 ro G19 would also be great choices but you didn't list them. I like the grip of the M&P better than the glocks though.

I removed Glock from my list because at the moment I'm stuck on "must have manual safety". My wife and I talked about it and we both seemed to agree it was a good idea. At least then I can either leave it on or off depending on the situation.

Thank you for your perspective on the models I listed. I am particularly fond of the M&P for a lot of reasons. I hear it has a nice terigger, is very acurate, and it has a huge after-market available. The 92 is legendary, looks awesome and has passed the test of time. The Px4 seems to be an "updated" Beretta. It would be even more interesting if it were striker/safe-action.

I removed Glock from my list because at the moment I'm stuck on "must have manual safety". My wife and I talked about it and we both seemed to agree it was a good idea. At least then I can either leave it on or off depending on the situation.

I would take a 92 over a storm for the reasons you listed. The track record for the 92 is so impressive (plus bruce willis used on in die hard haha). If you want a manual safety the M&P pro is out (I think). See it's getting narrowed down. Where do you shoot?

I have a BCSA membership, I have shot Bullseye there. I'm signed up for the summer league that starts next week. I also plink at a friends house out in Appalachin. I'm in the town of Vestal so I cannot shoot in my back yard

I would also recommend to look at the XD line of handguns. They are very well made and have decent triggers out of the box. I have one in 9mm with a 5" barrel. Excellent firearm. It does not have a manual safety but it has a grip safety like the 1911.
