So I was walking through Gander Mountain on my lunch break and saw they had different calibers available than usual with hunting season approaching. I asked one of the associates about special ordering different stuff since the safe act was passed we cant order online. He told me I could order anything I wanted on there website as long as I did in store pickup. So I went online came across Brenneke Slugs. Other than looking ridiculous, is there really any advantage in using them over a regular slug in an HD or SHTF scenario?

I've used them for hunting in the past. I do believe I took a doe with one a few years back. If it is the deer I'm thinking, I hit it broadside and it slammed right down the the ground dead. I have 1 or 2 left as I don't hunt shotgun much any more except in bad weather.

yeah I've liked them in a smooth bore, though finding 3"ers lately has been impossible it seems.

and they may be more expensive than the super cheapo sluggers but I don't remember them being all that expensive. been a while since I've bought them though my stash is now getting low..

Brenneke slugs are slightly, heavy emphasis on slightly, more precise than foster slugs out of my 590. They are also generally heavier and harder than foster slugs so I imagine they penetrate further as well. Locally Foster slugs are $1 a shell and the brennekes are about $2.50 a shell. If I were shooting at a bear Iwould want the biggest nastiest brenneke load I could get my hands on, otherwise I would stick with the cheaper fosters. Also the hottest brenneke loads generate tremendous recoil, I shot just 5 of the 3 inch high velocity black magic shells and my shoulder hurt for 2 freaking weeks!
