Beef jerky is one of the best foods to keep children quiet in the back seat ! Yep throw a bag over the seat and you won't hear a peep out of them till it's empty !

You can buy a Nesco for $35 and use the trays over and over. Throwing away filters after every batch seems like a giant waste of money.
The Nesco also adds heat to the fan so it goes even quicker.

I've been using my "RONCO" dehydrator for over 20 years! Can't beat it for the cost and performance!

I've done the box fan method for jerky, it's more expensive and time consuming than it looks. The filters are like $5 each and the fan has to run for 24+ hrs. Air doesn't flow much past 1-2 filters and it just blows out the sides and back. Better to just get a Nesco.
