No matter what people may think about the guy, you can't deny that's he's got a great mind for marketing...
...and if you don't have a lot of bank roll to do it.. you wait til the last minute and hit 'em hard with stuff like this. I'm just waiting for it.

Should of plugged the Moreland Commission in on this some how.... Cuomo will rebuke saying he's off saving the middle east while Astorino is getting water dumped on himself.

No disrespect intended, but I think that cold water challenge thing is ridiculous. So somebody got a bunch of people to agree to dump ice water on themselves and then make other people do the same thing? What exactly is the purpose of this? Remember when they used to do this in the wet t-shirt contests of the 80's?

Bunch of ****ing lemmings.

In this instance it's raising awareness, and money, for ALS research.

Must be generational, I don't see the brilliance in it. If it somehow inspires people to vote for him great, but I don't get it.
Robin
He's calling out Cuomo, basically. It's the same as Astorino wanting a debate with him but Cuomo doesn't answer it.

I suppose this could be akin to a chain letter. Dump cold water on yourself or donate money to ALS research. Since Astorino nominated those 3, he knows they won't do either, which makes them look like dicks.

it is Robin, facebook is huge and more so with the younger generations. things like this reach out to more younger people which typically lean left... so if he can win more of them and motivate them to vote then its a good thing.

we really need to get Astorino elected if we want any hope of turning this state around.

I used to do a cold water test coming home from the bar to determine if what I was about to do was a good idea.

Does that count?

I guess ALS is only getting $100 from Rob as he got doused AND donated the $100. The challenge is get doused or donate. Everyone I see is choosing to get doused. Sorry ALS "NO SOUP FOR YOU!"

I'd rather donate the $100 to Rob to get the FUAC out if Hamas misses the princess in Isreal.

Well, I haven't seen any data on how much it's raised. But awareness? I think the majority of Americans are aware of Lou Gehrig's Disease. What exactly does raising awareness do to solve the problem?

So from this article from Time Magazine ( ALS Ice Bucket Challenge: Dumping Ice Water for Lou Gehrig's Disease - TIME ) the deal is this... "If those challenged don't accept, or fail to post their video within 24-hours, they must donate cash to ALS research." Really? I MUST donate?

I don't think it makes anyone he called out look like a dick for not doing it. I think you look like a dick for following the herd for no real reason.

I actually heard on the radio this morning that the ALS foundation has received something like $3mill in the past couple months since this started.

I think it would be epic if Cuomo and Astorino rap-battled.

The more awareness is raised, the more people will see it in the news. The more it is in the news, the more people will donate to find a cure. The organizations that raise money for breast cancer research do a great job at this type of thing.

Yep! And despite the Billions of dollars donated toward cancer research, there's still no cure. I do see some very, very wealthy organizations that raise money and their CEO's are very well paid though. I think they also hire lobby groups to take more of my tax dollars to fund research as well.

Humans have a life span. We can try to extend it all we want, but eventually, we all die. Personally, I don't care how I die. I'm dead no matter what. My mom died from cancer. She led a lifestyle that was conducive to cancer, we live in an area that shows high incidences of cancer. She tried some treatments, didn't work, accepted her fate and moved on. Not a bad lesson to leave.

I think I'm going to start my own viral whatever. I'm going to twitter up a pic of me dunking my sack in a glass of ice water and everyone has to donate a dollar to the Human Fund for every millimeter of shrinkage.

News had a story last night about this. People are claiming that dumping water on your head is doing nothing to help ALS research. Turns out by getting awareness out there they've raised over 2 million dollars in a few months. In the six months prior to this campaign they raised just 25k

No cure? We're improving the quality of life and lifespan of people with cancer all the time. There are cures for different types of leukemia. There are a bunch of trials underway testing different cures for other cancers. Here are 2. The second one looks pretty promising.
