Unfortunately I don't know any clubs in the Area that have opened membership to new members.

If you are willing to drive 40 minutes, check out Stillwater Rod and Gun Club, Inc
It isn't glamourous, but the people are nice and friendly, you can set steel targets at all the target points, and membership is open.

i will check out stillwater 40- mins isnt to bad and close to camp in wilton , anybody a member at dunhams bay? looking for reviews and opinions thanks for the help
It seems like there is always someone there with an AR, nobody cares as long as they are not full auto. One day some guy had one that was damn near close to sounding like one and a few heads turned and that was it. Worth the ride.

Why would a club turn people away for using certain types of firearms? Seems a little odd to me, as long as they are safe and legal what would be the point of saying "hey, we dont allow those type weapons round these parts"? If i paid membership to a club and they told me i couldnt bring certain types of firearms there that were perfectly legal and sensible at that range, i would not continue to pay my membership and look for another club.

Not everyone wants to shoot a bolt action 22 and hand load every round in individually. Keep it safe and shoot what you like.

Oh yea, email the guys at SaraSpa to Rod and Gun club to get added to the waiting list. They have an indoor 24/7 range for handguns and 22 rimfire rifles. I just got in after a year on the list, looking forward to having a place to shoot on those -20 days we get.

That's what the wood stove is for at Stillwater!!! LOL I guess I should start getting wood up there huh? Noone else brings it in, so I'll get a few cords together and the newspaper is in the table nearest that stove if ya need it.

Check out Watervliet Fish and Game Protective Association. Not sure about their membership, but i've shot some matches there. It is a great club with facilities for everything and they host a lot of different shooting events.
Membership at Watervliet is closed. Non-members can shoot in leagues and sanctioned activities, but cannot otherwise use the ranges.

I've got a stack of firewood I need to start bringing up too. It's a bit less convenient since I traded in the truck. I'll probably start bringing a bit up each time I come up there.

But yes, Stillwater is a great little club. Nothing high-tech, but it's a nice place to shoot and the folks are friendly.

Stillwater Rod & Gun, Putting my application in with steve as soon as his emails me again. I will be at the meeting Dec 4th @ the range anyone know how many will be in attendance?
If you don't mind, let us know how it goes. I spoke with Steve yesterday via email and plan on joining, but can't attend tomorrow's meeting because its the same night as our 1st pistol permit safety class. :(

There were about 20 people there, and about 7 or 8 were new members. It's a pretty informal process. Steve takes care of the memberships at the start and then gets down to the business of the meeting. The few that I've been able to make it to have been pretty short. You can always mail in the app and I've heard Steve usually gets you the key and card in 2 or 3 weeks.
