Since the "SAFE ACT", I can no longer carry my UZI pistol with a 32-round magazine on my boat...

I'm considering a Serbu 12 ga. pump pistol, federally listed as "any other weapon" and requiring pre-approval from local authorities...in Albany County, I think that means ACSD sign-off on the application.

Has anyone been successful in doing this?

BTW, I'm retired LEO, and have had a pistol permit for 35 years.

The Serbu is considered to be a handgun in NYS and is not prohibited by the SAFT ACT, and would go on my pistol permit, IF
local authorities will sign-off on the federal application.

Any experience?

Here is my experience for a customer wanting one. Dealer to has to have a class 3 to receive, you will need to apply to the feds for your AOW tax stamp, you will also need local police head to sign off on it to possess, it then goes on pistol permit. I asked the NYSP for the process a year ago and haven't heard back so I wouldn't expect much help there. If I were you I would find a class 3 dealer in NY such as AT and ask for their help.

Firefly: Who is "AT"? Are they local to the Capital District?

BTW, goperfect's reply is all wet...an AOW transfers for $5 and does not need the purchaser to obtain a Class 3 license, just have the transfer go through
a dealer with one.

It's the sign-off from Albany County that concerns me.
AOWs do transfer for a $5 federal tax stamp, unlike full-autos and silencers.

AT is Allstar Tactical. You don't and cannot get a class 3 without being a FFL. It's a $5 tax stamp but to be very honest I think you are going to have a tough time getting the approval but try Allstar or another class 2/3 dealer for information.

I appreciate the info.
BTW, you and I did business once before, transferring an UZI pistol to me that another dealer was afraid to even touch...now on my permit.

You are informed, and were a pleasure to do business with.

Why not just carry a standard pistol and stow away a pistol grip Mossberg 500 or Rem 870 and save yourself the hassle

It is illegal in NYS to have a loaded shotgun in a vehicle, including a boat...the Serbu is legally a handgun in NYS and is exempt from that, despite being a shotgun.

There is an obscure exemption allowing a loaded shotgun in a boat while hunting waterfowl...

Didn't know that applied to boats. Damn those pirates are getting the better of us.

Oddly, the restrictions are not in the Penal Code, but rather in the Conservation laws, apparently originally intended to prevent deer-jacking...but, jail is jail...
and even a minor violation can lead to a pistol permit revocation., so I'm trying to play "their" game.

AT is Allstar Tactical.
I guess they don't want/need the business...they don't answer the phone, return voicemails, or answer emails.

Any other Class 3 dealers in NYS around? There was a place in Schenectady that was also a manufacturer of suppressors, but they are gone...
used to be on Erie Blvd. next to the porn shop, next door to the regional police training academy on the other side...perfect location!

I bought a stripped Stag AR15 lower from them, went back to order another, and the place was gone.

Allstar never got back to me. I emailed Mile back in May and he said he would get back to me.......

Special Arms was either sold & moved or just moved out to Amsterdam and eventually went out of business. You could try MTM Manufacturing in Saratoga. I'm not sure of their current status with are new firearms climate. Home Page I think they use to deal with some of the big boys toys.

I think MTM folded after the unSAFE act killed off their AR building, which was a vast majority of their business.

I can't even get Serbu to answer phones, return voicemails, or reply to emails in regard to potential dealer transfers for their AOW, the Super Shorty...
are all these people on vacation at the same time, perhaps together?

Very frustrating when you have to grovel to buy a commercial product...

It looks like I need to establish a trust or LLC for an un-related real estate matter, so I may just add a clause regarding acquisition, possession, and carrying of an AOW weapon...then don't need local sign-off, assuming anyone will even sell me a Serbu in NYS.

Serbu is really busy, they are not taking orders for super shortys as they are working on other projects and are back order. Hit gunbroker up, there is a VERY nifty AOW up there built on a mossberg 500 that takes 10 round sagia mags. I am not sure how the trust route would work as you would have to register the gun on your own pistol permit
