My first post, so hello all. I am currently waiting on a pistol permit from Tioga county. While waiting, I thought I would pickup some 9mm ammo that was on sale at Dick's. The clerk told me I needed a permit to purchase and I could not buy more than 3 boxes of ammo at a time. (50 rounds per box) As I am new to the handgun world of over-regulation, I was wondering if I could find out if this is accurate?

I've had luck at Walmart by telling them my 9mm ammo was for a rifle (it was). I just had to explain to the guy that I had a 9mm carbine that yes did shoot pistol ammo but no, it is not a pistol. He agreed and thought the store policy was dumb. Two minutes of chatting and bsing with the guy and he handed over my ammo.

Just tell them it is for a 9mm rifle...NOT a handgun.

Then they will sell it to you.
some places still wont... everytime I buy ammo at walmart they ask for a pistol permit and I tell them its for a rifle, most of them are not so bright so they say i cant sell it to you since the register asks me for it. i then tell them, its just a confirmation button that you have to press, it doesnt require any other info. so, now that you know its for a rifle just press the button. some of them tell me sorry, i need your id or i will lose my job. there is only one guy that works at a local walmart that doesnt bust chops on the permit issue.

its a lame as store policy, and its not a law by any stretch..... but, if you dont help fight for our rights you can bet that it will be in the future.

Gander had decent prices on bulk 9mm last time I was in and they only ask for DOB.
Ya beat me to it ! That's where I been getting some good deals lately with the mega packs . To the OP , checkout Gander on line then you are off to Shop for ammo . FYI a " Blazer magazine pack " has 7 boxes in the pack . It works out to 12.58 a box before taxes on sale . Not bad. Pretty much the best deal I have found , accuracy inst bad either .

Try Lock n Load Sports in Owego, they're local to you and have a very nice shop.

Dick's should be avoided like the plague, their prices suck and they're not friends of the 2nd Amendment.

Friend of mine just got his from Tioga County. It took about six weeks. Tioga County is very gun owner friendly.

9 mm has been easy to get for months now, might as well wait until you get closer.

Thats my luck...I have been waiting close to 3 months for my permit. Thanks to everyone for all the info, I hate Dick's, but I thought a box of 50 federal 9mm for 11.98 was a good deal. I guess I never thought they would lie about the law to stop me from buying ammo. I really don't get the lie about being only able to buy 3 boxes at a time. Lesson learned!
