I know cobis is dead but I'm just curious as to what the troopers needed the casing for? I'm not sure how they would get anything off the casing other than the extractor mark and possibly the way the firing pin hit? It just didn't make much sense to me.

My local dealers are mostly all still collecting cases for COBIS at the time of sale, even though it's my understanding that COBIS is dead. They say 'Nobody has told us anything about it, sorry' and that's that. Anyone else seeing this? Or have some sort of conclusive statement that says...

With cobis dead, what happens to all of the shell cases that are already on file? Are they kept but no new shells added? Thrown out? Left on file to collect dust?

Now that we no longer have to put up with COBIS, maybe the gun shops will get more realistic on their prices. A few dollars more to make a profit is ok but charging $150 to $200 more than say BUDS on line sales is just wrong. I even had a store worker tell me ..and I DO QUOTE...."well Buds is...

Decided to order a new Remington 1911 Yesterday... Got an email from the dealer this afternoon saying it was in, followed by another email saying I can't take it home yet :unhappy: Remington never included any spent casings with the gun for coBIS!! So now the dealer has to take the gun to the...

Funding for COBIS will not be included in this year's state budget, and unless Shelly finds a way to get 4 million, it's gone.

You will be pleased to know that the Governor did not include microstamping in his 30 day amendments to the budget bills as Ms. Schimel requested. The termination of CoBIS remains as originally submitted.

This is really funny. It must be opposite day at Newsday. Getting rid of CoBIS will not only save taxpayers money being spent on a useless system, it would also free up the officers wasting their time on the program to, I don't know, fight crime. It also strikes me as amusing Schimel stating...

Man was arrested for murder after a 40-month investigation. 25-Year-Old Man Charged With Murder In 2008 Shooting Death Of Oklahoma Girls | Fox News Apparently the detectives knew the serial number of the Glock and were in search of it. Maybe I'm wrong and reading too much into it, but how did...

I know ultimately I think I will support local and buy local but.... while looking and being very frugal looking at online gun auctions and what not. I see some charge for a cobis shell or when it gets here if it does not have one the FFL will charge for a COBIS shell. Given that how many...

Ok so COBIS is officially dead. Great news...... BUT what's the status of the MicroCrapping bill? I know it passed in the assembly, and has to go to the house. Did it ever make it there? a quick Google search turned up this "Republicans control the Senate, 32-30, and bills can't even come to the...

I was thinking of buying a Kahr CM9 from Buds Gun Shop. Good thing I asked, as Kahr does NOT ship a fired case with their new firearms. My local FFL informed me last week that he was not going to accept any new guns without the fired case. It's too much hassle for him to travel to Middletown to...

I don't know if this belongs here but I figured since state law requires the ballistic database it might. Anyway, I remember reading on a forum about an individual contacting the state officials and explaining the waste of money CoBIS is. Well, I found a link while searching the NYS website...
