My 90day wait time is almost up and I'm looking into buying a .308. However I can't decide what kind to get! I was looking at remington's 700 series but it seems to get mixed reviews. I'm mostly just going to use it for haveing fun long range shooting until I get the time to get my hunting...
I would like to do as post says either invest in a real nice long range gun or should I go with a complete custom and get a cheap like Remington 700 or few other builds I've seen that are real nice
budget is around 1000-1200 but might go up to 2k if can find a sweet rifle
Wondering what people here would recommend for a reasonably priced, accurate .308 bolt gun? I don't care about tacticool as I'd rather spend the extra $$ on good glass.
I've been doing some research and it seems like Savage and Howa 1500 keep coming up again and again as best values.
Anyone own and shoot a Remington 750 .308 carbine?
My wife and I have spent some time getting her up to speed with her new .22LR she bought a few months back, and I want her to get used to something with some more punch so she can get acclimated to shooting larger calibers for a "just in case"...
I'm looking for a new rifle for next season deer hunting.
Came across a 308 I like but comes in 18" bull and 20" light weight.
Can someone school me in barrel length.?
will a short barrel loos a lot of velocity/accuracy?
I'd like something good up to 300 yards.
Thanks in advance.
Yeah I know its a budget rifle, however I still love it. What are your thoughts on putting on a muzzle brake that does not thread the barrel since I have no threads. I couldnt find one for a reasonable price. Anyone have any ideas?

Have these hit the market yet in .308? I like the removable stock/backpacking feature. Looks like they did what Ruger should have done with their Scout rifle.

I am looking to purchase a rifle that can be accurate to 200 yards. If the safe act is upheld by the courts an Ar-15 is most likely out of consideration. I am curious - what do people recommend - a .308 or 30-06 rifle? Opinions and comments are welcome.
I've been filling my head with as much reading as possible, there's so much information on reloading out there it's insane, and equally as much negating everything. Everyone on the net is an expert, so it's tough to cut a clear middle path thru to get the real information.
I want to start...
For several years I have been slowly acquiring and assembling a dpms lr-308 and now need some help installing the barrel. The original plan was to buy a panther claw and headspace gauges and do the install myself. However, now that money is tighter I can't rationalize spending the money...
A buddy of mine stopped by and asked me to sell this for him. His father in-law passed away and this was in his house. One crate of over 1000 rounds on 10 round boxes (see photo). And then 100s of rounds in stripper clips (again see photo).
Can an you please tell me what a fair asking price...

I'm about ready to order a garand threw cmp. With all the new ammo crap looming overhead what are your thoughts on getting on in 308? My plan was to order greek ammo threw cmp but idk if that's gonna happen. I wont be loosing anything going 308 and ammo should still be available locally much...
I am looking for a sporting rifle in a popular caliber, a "SAPR" or "Battle-rifle" or the like (for all you Nutnfancy fans)
My thinking is buying something in either .223, 7.62x39 or .308.
Of course trying not to blow the bank.
Here are my thoughts...
7.62x39 - Low Accuracy...
