Default what about sniper/bench/bolt action training.

we have lots of training for "tactical" and "combative" trainings but nothing for bolt action or distance shooting.

I hate to use the term sniper as it gets tossed around way to much and I am the farthest thing from one, but I would like to participate in some kind of formal training on the subject.

So toss out some ideas or recommendations.

I know someone that might possibly be interested in instructing. No idea if he does "private" lessons to random people but I could always ask him. I don't want to throw around names but he's very qualified to instruct something like that. He gave me some pointers and they helped me out a lot.

I would definitely be interested in a formal class on long range ballistics and shooting.

A local guy? I think I know who you're referring to! I would also be interested in this type of training.

I've stumbled on a sniper training simulator a few times and it made me realize I don't know the first thing about proper long range shooting. I'd be interested.

Eeek I knew one of these threads would show up eventually. I also would like to attend something like this, but need a decent high powered scope for my m4. Anyone else think this thread should be moved into the private section? Seems like it might be a kinda touchy subject for some people.

I'd be interested in some long distance training as well. I think i spoke to ron about doing this a while back.

Where would we do it? After learning a tiny bit about longer distance shooting I know it will involve some classroom time which can be done most anywhere but all of the ranges I know of are 200 yards or shorter. Maybe that would be OK for an introductory type class.

I'll ask the guy I know if he would be interested in teaching something. If not we can find someone else.

200 yards is deff far enough for an intro course. I know of a 400 yarder but it is on private land and the guy is a bit odd between the ears.

I would be interested as well. 200 yards though is a typical deer shot around these parts.

I’d be willing to share what little I know on the subject.
While the weather is nasty we could get together locally for some classroom and close range work then as things warm up we could take a little road trip to my secret spot for some longer range work.

Can we get a head count?

For the record, I only have a .223 semi-auto to use. I know it's not optimal but would it do?

I’m sure a loner rifle can be found for anyone wishing to train.
The only cost would be ammunition.

Are people looking to do this local or take a trip to a training school?

    Hi Darkvibe,

As long as the .223 semi is quality, it would work great for a course, out to 500 meters with
no problems. We use to consistantly hit 24" x 24" circles at 300 meters (standing), and man size targets
out to 600 (prone) when I shot marine corps matches in the west pacific matches and at camp Perry in the 80's..
and that was open sights, no optics. It is all about you and your weapon. Learn on the platform
that you will be using. Learning on a rifle that you will never shoot again will do little if you ever call on your .223.

    (.223/ M16's, AR15, M4's, are so underated.... :-\ )

It's my AR-15 varmint gun. Shoots great and groups better than I can shoot it. 16" barrel probably isn't the best but it beats lugging around a longer bull barrel sometimes.
