Default Shotgun barrel

Can you fire any type of shotgun ammo in a rifled barrel ? Or do I need to buy rifled ammo for the shotgun ?

You CAN fire anything you want.... You need to clarify. Do you have a rifled barrel or smooth bore? Are you looking to shoot slugs or shot ? HD or hunting and skeet/trap ?

For rifled barrels, you need sabot slugs.

You should not shoot any type of shot from a rifled barrel because it dramatically decreases accuracy. Read more here: http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot43.htm

You got it backwards. Rifled slugs are made for smooth barrels, sabot slugs for rifled barrels.

Been shooting foster style slugs in rifle bore for years. Mossberg 500 rifle barrel, open sights, federal classic slugs, 3 inch groups at 100yrds on the hoof. 15 years and no damage and alot of dead deer. brother inlaw shoots same gun and ammo with smooth bore and scope. he gets 1 inch groups. eather way dear die.

I'd love to see a 1" group from a hundred yards with a smoothbore and foster style slug ... Is that a group of one shot ? No doubt you guys kill deer but no way he shoots any group like that. Hell a 3" group with fosters is fantastic and VERY seldom achievable.
