long story short, I am doing a mag spring swap on a steel AK47 30-round mag. I got a great Wolff +5% spring from MidwayUSA (cheap too, like $8 or soemthing). I have just about every gun oil made (what? I like variety. ), but nothing liike a grease and certainly nothing like cosmoline. what do you guys think I should use?thanks in advance. I just blast Rem-Oil into all my mags when I feel that they need a good cleaning/lube. Set them on a paper towel for a bit to let the excess drip out. Done. (OK, not all my mags. My PS90 mags get taken apart, but then again they were $75 a pop.)

well, I think "out of the box" so to speak, they are all set and ready to go. but here, I am swapping in a new mag spring. so, I was going to take the opportunity to clean it up and set it back to "all nice" status and stuff. |

| Went and read up on this stuff, pretty interesting concept. It's odd that in almost 50 years of shooting, I've never seen nor even heard of this stuff. Maybe they should do better marketing? Might have to give it a try if I ever can find it on a shelf. I currently use Militec-1 and find it does everything I could ask for, mostly making cleaning much easier.

I would just dry wipe to clean mag parts. If you are shooting corrosive ammo then just add some sort of clean/no-residue drying solvent when giving the parts a quick wipe down. | |

if you want to clean your Magazines, throw them in your tumbler for a couple of hours. I use walnut media. When I pull them out of the tumbler I wipe the inside down with a "wheel detailer" I got from PepBoys for 3 bucks. The only thing you should put on the inside of the Magazine is Pure Carnuba wax (if you use anything) wax will not attract dirt, everything else will attract dirt and dust. BUT, to be honest, if your never going to shoot outside or drop your mags on the ground (like during a competition) then I wouldn't worry about it.
