Default Question about modding a pre-ban WASR

Hi all, new to the forum, and NY (courtesy of Uncle Sam). I just recently purchased a cheap WASR-10 and was looking to mod it to make it more ergonomic for myself. I was told that this rifle is a pre-ban (the receiver is stamped with a date of 1971 so I'm assuming they were correct in telling me this). Either way, as I'm sure you know, this rifle came with a fixed wood stock, and I would like to add a folding stock and a SAW pistol grip to it but was unsure of the legalities of it as this is my first time in a ban state.

On another note, does anyone know where I can pick up some pre-ban 30rd magazines? Thanks in advance for your guys' help!

Can you get a pic up of where the receiver is stamped 1971? You will be ok with a pistol grip regardless of if its preban or not. If you have a preban WASR I'm guessing you got very lucky, but I'd be willing to be that the gun is not actually preban if the 71 date stamp is on the front trunion.

I won't be able to get a pic probably until Sunday, but the 1971 date is stamped on the receiver itself, I didn't check to see if it was stamped anywhere else.

ETA: Excuse my ignorance, as I am a complete ak noob, but what is the front trunion? I only recall seeing the date on the side of the reciever.

Is the date stamp on your gun where I have a yellow circle at in the picture?

I believe it is, but can't say for sure right now. I don't remember which side the date is stamped on. So, my understanding is that if the date is stamped right there, then I do not have a pre-ban rifle?

If the date stamp is right there then that means absolutely nothing as far as its preban status. That part of the gun is the trunion, this is the part which almost all AKs have a date stamp on them. Unfortunately that is not the part the BATFE counts as the receiver. On the bottom of the gun in front of the trigger guard does it say the name of any company or have a serial number there?

Maybe All Star Tactical can chime in to confirm my data. I'm guessing they are probably WASR experts!

    A trunion is this part.

ETA: I'm considering hosting an AK build party this spring or summer. If you decide you like the AK platform keep building one yourself in the back of your mind. I think I'm going to do a few 5.45 rifles.

i dont think there are any preban wasrs ... WASR is a acronym recently put together to my knowledge of the model of romanian imports that came in not to long ago during the ban .. post ban complaint ..

i would look into that if i were you .. at most .. keep the US parts count correct and dont put a folding stock on it ..

Can't have more than 10 non-US made parts.
