I know this is definitely mall ninja and gun ricer territory, but I'm thinking about getting a Spike's Tactical fake SD can for my AR.

My upper is coming in and it currently has a flash suppressor and a threaded barrel (both no-nos) and instead of permanently attaching something useless that adds length, I'm thinking about permanently attaching something that doesn't add length.

Watch the video. Adds negligable length, but does add cool/lameness (depending on your mall ninja rating).

I would say don't go with a fake can. It's just asking for someone to call the cops on you. I would go with a compensator, it doesn't add on useless length. If you get the right one it will severely decrease muzzle rise.

The FC556 is sweet, but I'm frugal. I bought a Miculek brake on Midway, they're on sale right now.

NY law says "a flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor"

Being able to accommodate a suppressor isn't written in the law anywhere.
