    Default Ruger 10/22

So after shooting a few times with my little brother, I think I want to pick up my first rifle. Further research and suggestions have led me to the highly reliable, and mod friendly Ruger 10/22.

Where do you guys suggest I pick one up, and if I do go to a local mom and pop gun shop, what should I be looking to pay? I called Dicks Sporting Goods last week, and the guy was a complete prick to me over the phone, and didn't seem to care for any of my questions.

Figured since everyone into guns seems to have owned one at somepoint in their life, you guys might be able to lead me in the right direction. 8)

There are a lot of different configurations for that gun. I bought a plain 10/22 carbine last year for $189. I got it at Herb Phillipson's in Rome. I think that's a good price for it at the time. No idea how prices have changed on .22s in the last 14 months.

I got mine last year for the same price @ Gander Mountain... They are currently running about $218ish...

You can buy new and MOD, or try rimfirecentral.com, sometimes they got guys selling already MOD'd ones for a reasonible price and it might be the MODs you would have done on your own...

I got mine from Dicks for 119, I had rewards cards, and they accepted a coupon that I had that was supposed to exclude firearms.

So in my ongoing research, and seeing all these nice GSG's popping up around here....is it more intelligent to buy a GSG-5, vs modding a 10/22 (stock, barrel, misc) that would probably add up to to the cost of the GSG. I want a fun gun, cheap ammo, to shoot at the range. I was planning on making the 10/22 tactical, not for distance.

Also, where can you buy a GSG, are they locally carrier, or are there long waits for them to show up around these parts.

An alternative would be building an AR22 like bpipe's. That thing was a dream to shoot. It didn't cost much more than a GSG, and its tricked out.

AR22 kit is $220, stock $50-100, forend around $100 or less, and a grip is up to $20.

Then you have the performance modability of a 10/22 in a nice tactical AR22 trainer package. If you go with a A2 stock, generic hand grip, and an inexpensive forend it would only be like $350 plus the cost of the gun. And you can buy 10/22s anywhere, and have limitless choices on barrels and upgrades for the action.

That's a good point. I will have to read into the poor man's AR-22 build.

I think my brother and I are going to Herb's this weekend to look at some stuff. He is trying to find a nice red dot and/or scope for his AK.

Although it's way too expensive, I think this is the coolest 10/22 mod I've ever seen. Forget the "tacticool" builds

That Chicago style one is awesome. But I don't think that we could get the drum mag for it being that we are in NY. :'( Correct?

Just picked up a base model 10/22 at Gander over the weekend for 199. They had some sweet sales going on, after I locked the gun up in the trunk, I picked up a hard case (plastic), ammo, targets, and a cleaning kit.

Also started ordering up my parts for my AR-22 build, can't wait!!

I will post pics of the progression of the gun as it happens.

I’ve been a fan of the Ruger 10-22 for years. A while back I decided to build what in my mind would be the ultimate 10-22. So I started making a list of all the things I’d change. I figured I’d bet a synthetic stock and a new barrel etc. That’s when I realized that I’d be better served to simply spec out what I want and go to a professional and get one built from scratch.

So I called an old friend of mine, Jim Clark, at Clark Custom Guns, Inc. down in Louisiana. I told him what I wanted and his shop built my ultimate 10-22 perfectly.

I asked for a midweight 18” Lothar-Walter barrel. I also decided on the Bell & Carlson Sporter stock. They also did a fabulous trigger job and slicked up the factory action.

I topped the rifle with a nice Leupold 3-9x33 VX-II Rimfire E.F.R. Riflescope. This scope has an adjustable objective that will focus crisply with zero parallax at 50 feet for indoor competition and practice.

I can hunt, plink or shoot competition with this rifle. It will consistently put every shot into the same ragged hole at 50 yards using CCI Green Tag match ammunition.

very nice! after building my AR-22 I am deff a fan of the 10/22. one of these days I am going to slap a real scope on it and see what it can actually do. So far 1 raged hole @ 25 yards with my bushnell red dot is the best.
