    Default H&K SL8-6 NYC compliant?

    Hello

    Are there any board members whom have had success registering a un-modded Heckler & Koch SL8-6 within NYC?

    I assume a g-36 conversion for this rifle would not at all be a law-abiding option.

    I've tried searching the forum but haven't had much luck finding information.

    I know I should move out of the city limits!

    It appears to me that other than a bolt action rifle or shotgun this may be one of the few options for a NYC resident that falls within the acceptable AWB criteria.

    Any insight would be graciously appreciated.

    I could be wrong but I beleive in NYC semi auto with detachable magazine is no go.

    the 200 round limit imposed by the fire code also puts a damper on saving any money on ammo for range trips with a semi auto....

    I recall once seeing a post before about someone in NYC being able to register a SL-8 as well as someone mentioning they had a neighbor whom also had some luck to which is the basis on my inquiry, which I thought was on this board. However using the search function in the forum panel didn't produce any results, but I just tried a the G00gle search command: subject site: (desired domain) and I came up with a few threads.

    Here:
    where's the best place to get legal advice?

    & here:
    Has New York defined the term "Pistol Grip?"

    I know this subject is a bit of a pain in the ass and beating a dead-horse because of the 5 borough's AWB, I wish moving was an option for me right now but I've got the itch for a H&K.

    Excerpt on AW
    http://www.nysrpa.org/files/nyc-admincode.pdf

    16. "Assault weapon."
    (a) Any semiautomatic centerfire or rimfire rifle or semiautomatic shotgun which has one or more of the following features:
    1. folding or telescoping stock or no stock;
    2. pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon;
    3. bayonet mount;
    4. flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor;
    5. barrel shroud;
    6. grenade launcher; or
    7. modifications of such features, or other features, determined by rule of the commissioner to be particularly suitable for military and not sporting purposes. In addition, the commissioner shall, by rule, designate specific semiautomatic centerfire or rimfire rifles or semiautomatic shotguns, identified by make, model and/or manufacturer's name, as within the definition of assault weapon, if the commissioner determines that such weapons are particularly suitable for military and not sporting purposes.

    (b) Any shotgun with a revolving-cylinder magazine.
    (c) Any part, or combination of parts, designed or redesigned or intended to readily convert a rifle or shotgun into an assault weapon.
    (d) "Assault weapon" shall not include any rifle or shotgun modified to render it permanently inoperative.
    Any opinions?

    I would say it looks like a no to me but I've only had my permit a few weeks. Best advice I have is to just call and ask. When I was picking up my permit one of the guys in the office was looking up a gun online to make sure it was ok, I'm sure they would do the same if you asked. Or maybe go in if you're near the court house.

    Um, hope this isnt against the rules, but bump?I'm getting my permit soon and have the same question.Was planning on a R700 and eventually an AICS upgrade for it. But for the same total price, I could get a SL8-6 from buds.The SL8 doesnt seem to be banned by the NYC regulations since it has none of the "evil features" listed.

    if an M1 garand is a NO GO in NYC, I bet this HK will be a long shot as well. There is so much flip flop on the web and the lists of banned firearms look old. The key wording is anything that is considered more military then sporting is banned in NYC.

    Its a cool looking gun so gun luck!

    Yea thats what I'm more worried about, getting the gun and going to register it, and THEN being told by whoever is working at the time that the gun is banned for something "it looks more military/tactical than for sporting"

    Because from what I see in the permit application packet for NYC, it IS technically legal.But again, I'd rather not waste money hoping for luck.
    If someone hasnt successfully done it, I'm avoiding it lol.

    And as for the R700, I think there are a few ranges up in Queens (more towards the suburban/Long Island areas) and a few in NJ as well.
    Definitely none in Manhattan as far as I know. I'm just worried about it being legal to own where I live.

    Its like people who buy snowboards, they cant use it without travelling but they love it so much they'd rather own than rent.
    Thats how I see myself and guns. I realize most of the time it will just be hanging on my wall/sitting on display (with locks).

    Regardless of it looking military, they will probably say no go because of the thumbhole stock.

    I don't see why it would be illegal if you could get a five round mag. As far as I know, thumb-hole stocks are ok. Call License to check before you buy. If you want something in .223 that's less "scary" you could always go for a mini-14. I have one and I know that they're allowed.

    Mini 14s and Mini 30s are specifically banned regardless of stock.
