    Default AR Upper Vise Block?

Anyone know where I can get one around here? Obviously I can order one from Brownells, but I'm just wondering of there is something local. I need one to install my barrel and flash hider.
Perhaps one of you has one sitting around that you're not ever gonna use again and I could buy it from you. I can pay in cash or .223 rounds......
I promise she'll enjoy her new home.

I don't want to sell mine but I have a DPMS "claw" upper action block. You can borrow it if you return it when you're done.

    It's this type...

edit... I also have a barrel wrench if you need it.

    Mighty nice of you sir!
I've seen some blocks for sale on gunbroker, ebay, etc that say 'not recommended for barrel installation applications'...... Any idea what woud make a block either recommended or not for barrel work?
So anyway, I may take you up on this offer. I do have a barrel wrench from work, so I'm all set with that.
I'm off the road this week, but I will be at the gun show on Saturday. Maybe we can make a plan to meet up if you're going.

For anyone else: aside from darkvibe's generous offer, if you have a block gathering dust somewhere, I'd still be interested so that I have one for future projects.

They probably warn you so if you break it you don't complain to them. What else would you use it for???

I'll be at the gun show this weekend sometime. Not sure which day but I definitely will NOT be there when the crowds are there.

when you install the barrel, make sure you use the torque wrench and set it to the appropriate setting.

I saw those, I'm just thinking someone out there wants to get rid of theirs and I won't end up having to drop $60 on one.

I do have a torque wrench that I picked up in that fashion..... someone bought one, used it a few times, then it just sat so I picked it up for a great deal.

Who knows.... maybe I'll find one at the show on Saturday.

I'll send you a PM with my cell and what time I figure I'll be at the show. If you come down, just give me a ring and we'll meet at the AST table. If not, no sweat. We'll set something up for next week. I can come to you during the week.

I've got the same upper block as Darkvibe, and I have used it to install and remove barrels more than a dozen times. It still works perfect and there is no sign of it wearing out.
At the last Dome Show there was a guy selling a few blocks, who knows if he will have them this time or not. Keep you eyes open and you might find them.

I've got the one from Brownells that you can borrow.
The one Darkvibe has puts the stress on the takedown lugs and that is why they are not recommended for BBL work.

Found this on gunbroker.... can have it at my door for under $40, which is cheaper than anywhere else I've found. I think I like this style better than the ones that have pins. Thoughts?

I looked at that kind but it didn't fit my billet upper.

Gotcha.... I have an A3 upper. I contacted the seller and he confirms that it fits either A2 or A3. I like the idea of this one 'wrapping' around the upper as opposed to being held in place by pins. I'm still gonna keep my eyes open at the show tomorrow.

You can use to pieces of soft wood as well - The soft wood will sink into the rifle. I have used it on numerous occasions to vise up a rifle for some work, mainly threading a bbl.

Picked up one today at the gun show.... It's not the kind with the pins, it's the kind that 'wraps' around the upper. It was $30.... half of what Brownell's sells them for. Time to get to work!

Thanks to everyone who offered to loan me one. With that being said, if anyone ever sees this and wants to borrow mine, just let me know.
