Yup, I signed up for his class (same day as the Syr gun show!!!), so I'm good to go. Do they just teach the class in one of the isles at GM?

Yep, you don't really select anything. The application has an area for reasons for getting a full concealed license but that's it. I don't think you have to put anything else unless of course you are trying to get an unnrestricted license.

If all else fails, leave that part blank and ask about it when you are down there for fingerprinting. It says to do that with anything that you are not sure of.

As far as your residences, just put any place that you listed on your driver's license, income tax returns, bank accounts or had utility bills in your name.

There's a classroom in the back. Its on those metal folding chairs with only one break so if you have a problem sitting, bring a pad or pillow. I wish I had.

I went with my wife for hers. Its a good class that covers a lot. Tim keeps it interesting.

I handed my app in about 2 months ago, so I'm a bit foggy on the whole thing, but I believe there's a spot to list what you want the license for near those 3 choices, and you can just write "Sportsman" there and they get the point. But if you want to be really safe, just leave things blank. The guy who takes in Onondaga permits is very nice and willing to show you what to put where when you hand it in.

As for waiting until June, that's not bad, I had to wait 6 months. The plus side is, they seem to be issuing them quickly, I got mine in 2 months, 3 days after appointment.

I have a question. How does the whole "immediate family member" thing work? If I get my permit, does that mean that my wife can buy a handgun and register it on my permit? So she can own guns too?

Probably means that if you both have a permit you can list one gun on both.

Are you sure? I thought it meant that she could sort of piggyback on my permit...

No touchy without a permit. She cannot legally purchase one. Get her permit and it'll be better

absolutely not, every firearm I own is cross-registered on mine and my wife's permit.

the advantage is also if I get hurt, or end up in the hospital, etc, there is no problem with her posessing them.

Temporaryscars, I hope you were kidding. No permit = No touchy.

and if any one has any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I am not a know it all nor a lawyer, but have been doing this in one form or another for a very long time, and am well versed in how it breaks down.

i am ALWAYS free to help, and if any one also wants to try a gun before they buy, let me know. I probably have what you are looking for,

We all need to stick together in this h3ll hole of a state

That's what I get for listening to somebody from Texas.

"Why is your wife getting her permit? She can just put her guns on yours."

if your wife owns guns in NYS, and has no permit, that is a MAJOR felony

What? No, she doesn't. We're currently going through the process of getting permits so that's why I'm asking. I wouldn't do something, THEN ask.

My wife picked up her application today and they wouldn't let her schedule her appointment while she was there! They said she had to call to do that. So she called later that day and then they said she needed to complete the safety course first. WTH?!

So what should we do about this lady? Just go back when somebody else is working the window?

schedule the class, then talk to the lady at the window. your options for ladies at the window are limited. I believe unless I am mistaken there are still only 2 of them, and if one of them sees you and recognizes you she will tell the other one.

they work very closely together over there.

your best bet is to schedule her class and take it, and then schedule the appointment. I know of a few instructors that could have that class done by next week ...

I just asked my wife since she's going through this now. She said when she called to make the appointment, she was asked about the class, when and where she took it and if she had her references all signed and ready to go.

I thought you could make the appointment when you picked up the packet and I was wrong.

It kinda makes sense to me. They probably hand out twice as many applications then the number of people that follow through with the safety class etc. If they allowed people to schedule before they get the classes, they would have a lot of "no shows".
