OK, here it is, some of the filling out basic info stuff is a giving. Now what box shold i check, im guessing carry/concealed? and what reason. I was thinking hiking, target, sporting, lawful purposes. I heard NOT to put down protection and if you do you will probably not get a permit. Four contacts should be easy. All of the questions checked no. Take some pistol safety courses to attach to the appication. After that i have to bring this to my local police station i believe to be sworn and printed. Get ahold of drivers abstarct to attach. Send them the whole thing with a postal money order of 105.25 and wait.

just state for concealed carry for self defense purpose and home protection, the judge issueing it should have no problem with that answer , when you go before him for the interview make sure you explain to him that you would like the permit that is no restrictions on it, other wise they will give you for sporting purpose only which means you cannot carry concealed throughout the state of NY

I know Albany county is a bit tough, but not impossible. That rumour about not putting 'personal protection' is just that - a rumour in some counties. Each is different but do it the right way the first time.

If you are in the Rochester area, come to the Permit Pre-license course and learn all about the stuff the counties want you to learn of.

In Dutchess County I put down for "Personal Protection" The clerk told me to add "Target Shooting" I got the CCW "Full Carry"

Check everything there and add the "For all lawful Purposes" They can't argue then that you are not asking for what you really want.

OH HEY, this is my thread, haha. Well i left my application in my clipboard in the back of my truck. i need to pick up a new one. I called around to the places they listed for the required handgun class you need to take before handing in the application and all of them dont do it anymore, WTF

Find out what they want in a class. My Pre License class usually fits the need for the counties....

I have been thinking of getting a gun for a while and since there has been a lot of violent crimes in my neighborhood in Albany I am looking into getting the proper permits to buy a handgun.

Allstar can you direct me to where I pick up the proper forms to be filled out to begin the process?

About your question as to where you can take the proper classes; I am not entirely sure if this is a required class but some internet searching led me to the website for the Albany County Pistol Club located in Delmar. http://home.nycap.rr.com/acpc/ They have a class coming up in December which I plan on attending. If you could help clue me in to the process of what it takes to get a pistol permit and a carry/conceal license I would appreciate it greatly.

I am also in Albany County and am going to be looking to get my pistol permit, but I just moved here in July. Does that mean that I am pretty much beat on the whole 4 people thing since the only people I really know or have known that long are my friends in Greene County. Also, I am former military, specifically a Military Police Patrol...would that have any bearing on the requirement for classes?

From what I hear Albany,like Schenectady is one of those counties that frown on applying for "protection".
For what it's worth,I heard it from a Albany resident who's a member of my gun club.
Also,if you are a resident of the town of Colonie I think they have their own system for permits.It may be worth checking out

My old man was speaking with Ted Danz, who put down something along the lines of right of 2nd amendment, he got rejected, then reapplied and got it. He is in Berne area of Albany county.
