Default Non-Resident Permits (Pennsylvania & New Hampshire)

I have both PA and NH non-resident permits so I thought I'd share my experience on how I got them.

    For PA...
Download the application for a PA license to carry firearms here:
    http://county.centreconnect.org/sher...e_to_carry.pdf

Fill it out, include the info they require (copy of drivers license, home state permit, SASE)
Mail it with a $26 check to:
    Centre County Sheriff's Office
    213 East High Street1
    Bellefonte, PA16823

My permit showed up in 7 business days. It's good for 5 years. When you get it, you have to sign it and tear off two of the carbon copies and send them back to the sheriff. Make sure you go through the Centre County Sheriff or you probably won't get one.

    For NH...
Download the Application for Non-resident pistol/revolver license here:
    http://www.nh.gov/safety/divisions/n...ts/dssp260.pdf

Fill it out, include the information required in the instructions (copy of drivers license, home state permit)
Mail it along with a $20 check to:
    NH State Police
    Permits and License Unit
    33 Hazen Drive
    Concord, NH 03305

My permit showed up in about 2-3 weeks. It's good for 4 years.

With reciprocity, having PA, NY and NH gives you somewhere around 20 states that you can carry in. Make sure to check all the local laws if you travel, especially whether or not the state that you are traveling to honors non-resident permits or only permits issued to residents. By that I mean there are states that will honor a NH permit but will not honor a NH non-resident permit.

    Here's an FYI:

Rochester Personal Defense will be hosting the Utah certified Non resident permit class coming soon - most likely in September or October at the GCL. Keep hitting the website and stay up to date. Join the mailing list and you will get all the updated information as it is released.

    Stay safe!!!

Utah would be cool. Lots of reciprocity with that one if I remember right.

Florida is another one that's obtainable. I actually have the application for that one but it's more involved than the others I've gotten. I need fingerprints for that one and it was over $100 for a 4 or 5 year permit. I think i've kind of decided that one isn't worth it to me.

If you travel, FLA is worth it. 31+ states have agreements with FLA for reciprocity

One thing to remember: Some states only have reciprocity with 'resident permits' from either Utah or Florida. Your Non Resident permit would be useless. Check the state and the setup before you assume.

There are some advantages to having the actual permit, sometimes it is no matter.

    You have to judge.

It is recongnized by some states. It's only a few states that require your permit to be from the state you reside in.

If you go to PA Atty. General Tom Corbett's website, you can read the actual reciprocity letters. You will find that many of PA's letters are ambiguous about the issue of non-resident permit reciprocity. The issue arose when PA State Police were not recognizing NH permeits held by non-residents. The Atty General amended his website to state their intent in extending coverage to all permit holders regardl;ess of state of residency. Nevertheless it is possible to have your non-resident permit refused by the PSP.

So... best practice is to send in your $26 to Sheriff Denny Nau of Centre County and get a PA LTCF. If you can get a state's own permit it is much better than relying on reciprocity chains... especially for NY residents where our state recognizes NOBODYs permits.

thanks BREE that is what i did in 06 with Danny Nau got my permit for PA and then i also went on line and got my permit for the state of Conn. a few months later the only problem there is when traveling from NY to Conn you have no choice in getting to Conn by passing through the state of MASS. with your gun MASS. state police said that if you do not have a Mass. permit your gun must be unloaded and locked in a locked box with the ammo seperate from that case and both must be locked in the trunk of your car, and after you leave the state of Mass and get into the state of Conn. only then can you reload the gun and put it again on your body to carry in Conn. now tell me that this is not BS one day maby we will see a universial ccwp that is good to carry in all 50 states just like a drivers license good in all 50 states" say no to OBAMA" MCCAIN in 08

It's even worse than that. The moron Atty General from Massachussetts was prosecuting people for weapons violations despite the fact that he knew there is a Federal Exemption allowing interstate transport in the manner you have outlined. He just had em arrested and charged anyways.

Now it seems to me that this guy should have been tossed into the slammer for wanton disregard of the law and contempt of Congress or something like that.

So, here are the details so far for the Utah permit class:

We are going to look at doing and all inclusive type class. Instruction, prints, photos, even the notary if we can swing it. This way, you come in, get the info and everything else, and you walk out of there ready to plop the application right in the friggin mail......

Ian does have hi creds now, they did not waste any time getting them to him....He had to order his crusher stamp and then we'll get it going. He and I will probably meet this week and work out the details.

As soon as we have it set, you'll know.......

OK, so we are looking at around 75 bucks for the class. We'll have the photos done, prints done, and a notary available so that your application is all set when you leave the class.

Currently, we have one set for Oct 4th. Times are not solid yet, but we imagine it will be an 8 or 9am start.

Email me to register. This will be a limited class, and it will be a first come, first served setup.

    The list is starting now......

I think that is a bad day for me. I think I will be heading back from Southern Illinois on my motorcycle that day. The price is fine. I may have to attend the next one. Any idea when that might be?

Hey Dave, you should post some details about the permit. Cost to get it, how long before you have to renew and what states currently honor it.

I might be interested. Depends on cost and renewal interval. I don't travel that much but get my non-residents mostly because I may not be able to later on when new politicians are in office.

Well, since I am not the guy that is certified, my instructor is, he would know all of that....lol

Besides...you have to come to the class to learn all of that anyway...geezzzz

    I do know this:

It's valid in almost 30 states. The permit itself is 65.00. Good for either three or five years, renewable by mail. Utah actually honors NY permits....wheeeeeeee

Go to this page on my site

    http://www.safeinrochester.com/pdfs/USReciprocity.pdf

It's a chart for all the states. Check it out duuuude

Well, between the class (75) and the permit itself, (65), you are looking at 130.00

    Not too bad

I think it is an excellent price and well worth it. I just need to match my schedule with yours. It is POSSIBLE that I can make it. I may have to cancel a trip I planned due to job considerations. That would free me up. I will email if that happens.
