Congrats on the purchase and you couldn't have picked a better gun dealer. I just finished my 9 month wait in Monroe and was in there picking up my gun earlier in the week. I was looking at a compact M&P 40 however choose the full size due to the longer sight radius. If people were suggesting I not get a compact as my first handgun, a subcompact may not be the best choice. I am new to shooting and wanted to get started with something that I could use to build my skill. Your situation is probably different, but either way, welcome to the club!

Congrats! The glock was a great choice as was getting it from Beikirchs. I got my permit a few years back in Wayne county, and it was only 6-7 weeks at that time. Keep us posted on your progress.

I wanted something compact as my first civilian handgun. I'm got sick of the m9 pretty quick.. My next handgun will be inheriting my grandfathers 1911.

Not to bad. I have been waiting a little over a week for my last amendment. Each time we add to our permit a judge must sign off. Last one took 3 weeks! I love NY.....I love NY......

Never heard of anyone having a problem. Folks where also worried that if they amended to get the new plastic card they would be restricted. I had no issues changing over to plastic & have heard of no issues.

I have been procrastinating applying for a permit myself. I will be watching your progress and maybe will get off my butt and get started with the process. I have a pistol waiting at my Father's place in Ohio, I did get all the info off it awhile back. I originally bought this 22 semi auto in Indiana when I was in college back in the dark ages of the 60s. The full requirement in small town Indiana was walk into the town office and ask for a permit, fill out a short form, they hand you the permit and you walk back across the street and present it at the gun shop. I traded it to my Dad when I moved to NY but now he has given it back to me.

Sounds honest, which is good! Be sure to pick your references carefully. Let them know they will probably be contacted by the sheriff during the process. I also hear that the Sheriff may stop and visit you.

Yes I made sure my references were reliable people! The only thing I would be worried about of the sheriff stopping by is a loaded 12g in my bedroom but then again it wouldent be serving its purpose if it was unloaded

well its been over a month and haven't heard anything from the sheriff's department. I'm starting to wonder if the address verification is random. ifi don't hear anything before 25 march 2012 ill call and ask where my permit is.

Have all your reference sent in their paper work? Just had a conversation at a gun shop today and they said Wayne Co had really improved the turn around but because of that a lot of people have applied that didn't bother when they thought the wait would be to long so the time had stretched out a bit again.
