Default Attn. NYC pistol license holders

The NYPD has sent out form letters to pistol license holders who list handguns which can accept magazines holding 10+ rounds implying that all such magazines are illegal and that the guns must either be modified or turned in prior to renewal of their pistol license. NYSRPA is looking to speak with anyone who has received a similar letter. Specifically, we are looking for:

    * Anyone who informed the NYPD that their magazine was made prior to September 1994 and thus lawful and nevertheless had their handgun license revoked or not renewed because of it.
    * Anyone who turned in their magazine based upon on the misleading statements in the NYPD's letter.
    * Anyone who turned in their magazine and is now trying to get it back.
    * Anyone who corresponded with the NYPD about this letter and/or a magazine capacity issue.

Please call Tom King @ 518-424-1349 to further discuss the issue.

Yes. Almost seems bogus. It makes no sense, either. Other than turning your guns in, how do you possibly comply?

That has to be bogus. IIRC NYS law says you cannot take a handgun into a police station (i.e. One police Plaza)

Spoke to a friend with a city permit. A few years ago he had to "sell" his 15 round mags to the city and show proof that he bought 10 round mags to replace them. He's from Russia so he didn't mind.

Each new purchase must be done this way.

Request in writing a purchase authorization and wait 4-6 weeks for it.

Go pick it up, make purchase and return within 72 hours for inspection and have the weapon added to your license.

Inspector Lunetta is the Commanding Officer of the licensing division and has the final say on who gets what type of license in NYC. He is also an IAB guy and very firm yet fair. I saw him last week at a meeting. He follows Bloomberg protocol so while he has discretion, this is all city policy.
