Victims twice over, if you consider what Apple charges for a computer these days.

I read a story on a different site a few months ago that suggested iPod users were being targeted by muggers, whom were identifying them based on the white earphones. It suggested replacing the stock Apple earphones with more discreet ones. My thought would be to abandon the use of the iPod in public altogether and pay more attention to your surroundings.......

It's still not expensive enough for Westchester to issue a Full Carry.

I thought about this around Christmas time this year. I was walking out of Sam's with many hundreds of dollars worth of small electronics. Busy parking lot...I kept my head on a swivel. I wonder how much if any criminal activity takes place there during the busier seasons?

that's pretty funny because many other manufacturers started to make tons of white headsets to piggy-back on the iPod frenzy. I'm sure some people got mugged and they had a $40 Creative Labs Nuvo MP3 player with white headphones.

Let me tell you man... i ride the long island railroad to and from work every day... so often do i see someone with their ipod touch (300 dollars) sitting in their lap (sleeping mind you) with the music so loud they would NEVER hear someone approaching... with a laptop bag on the floor next to them.

99% of the people on that train are preoccupied with either a newspaper, blackberry, or just sleeping. It amazes me that more people aren't pick pocketed.

One of my buddies recently witnessed a thief breaking into cars at Carousel Mall in Syracuse, called 911 and carefully followed the guy in his car to assist the police in catching him. The arresting officer told my buddy that he doesn't even let his own family go to that mall because of all the crime that goes on there.

We had a local group breaking into parked cars at shopping centers and stealing GPS units and iPods.

It amazes me to walk through a parking lot and see how many people leave those expensive devices lying around in plain sight. It only takes five seconds to take them down and hide them in the console or glove compartment. Why leave them out in the open and invite trouble like that?
