Default Paterson meets with lawmakers over political future

Stumbled across this story today when going through my news feeds. Wonder if there's any truth to this or if it's just media speculation?

Quote:
New York Governor David Paterson has met privately with key Democratic leaders about his re-election plans even as questions continue to swirl around the state capitol about a variety of unproven accusations involving the Democratic governor's personal conduct.

I wouldn't think Paterson has a shot in 2010 as it is anyway. People are getting incredibly sick of the tax and spend mantra. Personal conduct, well I wouldn't dig too deep in that. If someone wants to find dirt, all they have to do is ask.

NY Times is supposed to have a juicy story on him which would likely lead to his resignation.

Supposedly it's a sex scandal according to my local news. That makes me laugh

What is it about achieving elected office that makes it so hard to keep it in your pants and properly file your taxes?

Am I the only person who doesn't care about the sex lives of politicians? It doesn't concern how they govern, so I don't really care. When they start using tax payer money to pay for hookers, then let me know, otherwise, just run the damn state.

It wouldn't be as big of an issue if so many of them didn't run on the platform of moral superiority (Governor Sanford, I'm looking at you...) Nobody likes a hypocrite.

There's also something to be said for Governors and Presidents. They have to inspire people to follow them and potentially give their lives in defense of the state or country. Hard to do that if you are a sleeze who can't command respect.

Yeah, but you have to remember that they're people just like us, and nobody's perfect. Holding them to such high standards will constantly lead to disappointment. Even our founding fathers had blemishes.

True enough, but then most of us don't hold ourselves up as perfect and criticize those who fail to live up to our standards.

Yes, but we don't spend 10 years and millions of taxpayers dollars trying to stamp out prostitution only to be caught banging a prostitute. (Spitzer)

We also don't waste more than half a century fighting a losing battle against drugs only to get caught doing them. (Pick a politician and you've probably hit an example.)

The D.C. mayor who was on camera smoking crack or doing lines is the most memorable lol. At least the girl Spitzer was banging was hot

The title of the thread is misleading. It shouldn't read "Paterson meets with lawmakers over political future"
It should read "Paterson meets with lawmakers. Political future over"

They are not people just like us, why on earth people think this is beyond me they are supposed to be working and leading for us. Politicians are kind of like an officer of the law, you are supposed to be even more disciplined and behaved than the average person or lose your job/position. If you cannot be well behaved don't bother running for office.

Exactly. Regardless of whether you think it should be, prostitution is illegal in this state. The fact that a governor and former prosecutor is breaking the law is a major concern. Undermines belief in the system, to say the least.
