    Default PWA Commando pre/post ban?!?!

Recently won an auction on GB for a PWA commando thats was marketed as pre-ban. Being in NY, unfortunately we are limited to pre-ban if we want to have all the fun features. Serial number of the gun is #41xxx. After searching around, it appears that "Definite serial cutoff. Last Pre-ban lower is #35,222. All Post-ban receivers are given a year prefix."

based on this information, it would appear to be a post-ban rifle. Where it gets interesting, is that there was a california assault weapons registration issued in april '01. based on this, one would presume that the rifle in question was sold/manufactured prior to the '94 awb. I've already got an email to LMT asking about manufacture date, as they were the ones that produced the lowers for PWA apparently, but was hoping somebody here could possibly offer some insight as well.

To the best of my knowledge, 35,222 was the last one to meet pre-ban requirements... Looks like you might be getting hosed... I hope you work it out with the seller...

35,222 was the definite cut off. IIRC the post ban PWAs were marked with a date too ont he magwell? some of them were anyway which also indicated they were post ban.

If you paid preban prices for a post ban PWA you are getting hosed- they should the same price as other post ban lowers- cheap.

    [edit]

here is one of the post ban PWAs notice the marking on the right side of the magwell:

    or this?

I assume you won the 2nd one, for $700 it isn't a bad deal even if it is a post ban. , I suspect the letter refers to the fact that the rifle is pre California Ban. ..

yes, it is the 2nd one. what has me scratching my head though, is that the clinton era awb ran from '94 up until '04. As such, it would have been prohibited for sale under the federal ban. being illegal under the federal ban, how/why would california register it in 2001?

If it does in turn to be a post-ban lower.....no money has changed hands as of yet.....

It is in a post ban configuration- those guns and stripped rec's were still sold and in production during the federal ban 1994-2004.

Well he DOES tell the serial # in the description so I'd say no. But really it is up to you and the seller. Maybe you can pay him the listing fee and he can relist it.
