I stopped by Dick's today to purchase some .45 and was asked to show my pistol permit. So whatever I'm against it but I always just show it and get it over with. Now when I get to the register the little nazi behind the counter asks to see it again, ok, i show it to him, and he wants to see it so i hand it to him. Then he goes to copy something from my permit into the computer, I asked him what he's doing and he goes, oh it's a new thing I have to take your permit number (he was reading the serial number btw). I said no and the woman next to him who was bagging for him goes, what do you mean no. I said give me back my permit you're not taking that information. She goes but you have to show it or something I said no thank you I'll go buy it somewhere else. AS I'm walking out she said something like "oh that's cool." I should have explained to her why I was against it but there was a group of people around and I was afraid how I would look cuz to be honest most people just don't get it.

Kind of ironic my civil liberties almost got trampled so close to our nation's birthday.

Guys, the "Carbine" explanation, much like at Wal*mart will usually end in an answer of GTFO. It's like pistol ammo (at least in big box stores) is some "sacred commodity" in NY. What a joke.

It's not really a NYS gov't rule, it's Dicks rule, and might be just that store. Since Dicks is a private corporation they're allowed to make the policies that they want. And WE can shop elsewhere, just like we wouldn't shop at a store with a no guns allowed policy, or with a company that supports gun control legislation.
There's stores down south that post 'no guns allowed inside "signs, even in places like Texas or Florida. People go elsewhere.

I'd say you made the right move, personally.

Now the next move is you need to send a concise, but well written, letter to Dick's management and explain that not only are employees concocting new and nonexistent laws, they are treating customers with an attitude when the customers correctly point out that their claimed legal requirements do not exist. Did you try to speak with the store manager? Also I would suggest pointing out in your letter that one reason that the store should not be writing down people's permit numbers is that it could facilitate the production of fake pistol permits and the diversion of both guns and ammunition to criminals. Actually I'd pretty much start your letter off by saying that. Personally.

Half the time 18yo clerks dont know guns so you said not for a pistol and away i go. last time I got 9mm at Wally thats what I said. for my 9mm rifle. OK he goes and give it to me
but lately Ive even avoided the hassle and not buy from them. I dont think I'd like my number taken down too.

Same here. I went to Gander mountain a few weeks ago . I had a few boxes of .45 .The clerk says I need to see your pistol permit for those. I said What???? I need to see your pistol permit for the .45's. I said well I dont have one Pal. He said I cant sell them to you . I said WTF???I said I dont have a pistol I have a 45 carbine . Oh he said. What kind?? I said, Not that its any of your business But I a have a hipoint 45 . he said Oh, OK, then you can have them then.

What the hell kind of law is that??? I could have had ten illegal pistols and a carbine. What the hell good does it do?

Hennnnnnnnyways, next time tell em you have a 45 hipoint carbine. obviously you dont need a permit for that.
