I had body armor that I used for when shooting photos in Israel - just packed it in my checked baggage, post-911 and not an issue.

I realize that the comment I am replying to is old, however, the guy quoting the law about when it is illegal to wear body armor during a crime, if you're stocking up on something to prevent bullets from entering your body DURING the crime you are planning on committing, you have much greater worries then what type of felony it is, things such as when that SWAT sniper is gonna pop your melon off your shoulders.

I visit this forum every day because it often has news of local events and I know many of the folks that post here.

Unfortunately, of late, there’s been a spate of threads that just seem to lack something. I don’t know, I don’t want to hurt anybody’s feelings but I guess these threads can best be described as immature or childish. Maybe I’m just jaded and am becoming an old fart.

Posting to belittle the OP or to make a ham-handed attempt at humor when the original intent of the post was honest and forthright disappoints me.

In this thread the OP can be honestly responded to with; yes it’s legal to wear body armor in NYS. Nuff said.

In another thread pages have been spend examining the “legality” of a loaded detachable magazine separate from the rifle in a motor vehicle; yes, it’s legal. Nuff said.

What if you could only have one gun?..........a mini-gun really?

Where can I carry a concealed weapon? If you need to be armed be armed, just keep it your secret. Nuff said.

I could go on but I hope I’ve made my point. Let’s grow up just a little.

Yes because telling people its ok to be armed in no gun zones in any situation is such a good idea...

well, if you go to NYS police supply, they WILL NOT sell you any body armour unless your a LEO or certified type guard. They told me that it was illegal for civialians to own body armour. I asked for body armour when I was doing a lot of innercity property management service.

I was (and still) not worried about bullets, but I was more worried about someone trying to stab me. Basements are pretty much one way in and one way out. If some dumba$$ wanted to they could try to pin me in the basement. back in those days a cell phone was 'new technology' that I did not have. So getting trapped in some of these properties was a real concern.

I suppose I could buy some on line, but the guys said it was illegal, so I never bothered

I do not see need in any day to day but for a very special situation ...in case aliens invade earth ... or going downtown detroit.?
One of my buddies who is a military contractor is going to get me a new one with type IIIA large body shaped trauma plates. If anyone is interested let me know. If I order 3 to 5 we get a discount. These are special forces / military grade not the cheapo stuff.

I see you never worked in the inner city at night, but what are you looking at for a price?

I am buying 2 for $975 / each. If I get 3 I can get for $950 each and $900 if I get 5. They come with heavy duty magazine pouches, straps and the trauma plates. The large plates will stop a 308 winchester or dragunov rounds. That is what they are designed for. Special forces use them. I am not interested in selling anything but the more I order the better deal I get. They are hard to get.

You do know that a bullet resistant vest will not stop a knife? You would have to get a stab vest.

as stupid as this might sound, i've had deer slugs fly by me while hunting and I often thought about buying a vest. how far away would the shooter have to be for the vest to do any good?...3 or 400 yards?

Almost any body armor will resist knife slashing. I have a pair of Kevlar gloves from 5.11 that are slash resistant. Stabbing attacks require special inserts for most soft body armor.

Soft body armor won't stop shotgun slugs. Ceramic or steel plate, carrier, and prayer. That slug is going to ruin your day, armor or not.

If you want to wear it - go ahead so long as you're not using it in the commission of a crime. I've worn it for before for work - can't say I liked it, especially in the summer months, and it made me look 20 lbs heavier. Just keep in mind that most bulletproof vests do not protect against things like knives. The stuff that CO's wear in the jails are different than what your average street cop wears as they have a better chance of getting shanked than they would getting shot.

My opinion - if you're not in a high-risk activity or employment where your chances of getting shot at are higher than the average citizen, the need isn't there.

You can always go to a clothier like Adrian Jules and have a custom suite made of Kevlar, it will cost you about 4 or 5 or 6 G's but if you want to look good AND be bullet proof (sort of) , that would be the way to go. LOL

    2. For the purposes of this section a "body vest" means a bullet-resistant soft body armor providing, as a minimum standard, the level of protection known as threat level I which shall mean at least seven layers of bullet-resistant material providing protection from three shots of one hundred fifty-eight grain lead ammunition fired from a .38 calibre handgun at a velocity of eight hundred fifty feet per second.

The unlawful wearing of a body vest is a class E felony.
Exactly what he said. Although most places will not sell to you unless your LEO or military. But their are tons of places online who have body armor for very cheap.
