    Default Bye bye David Koon

For you of those that do not know the name Koon is a giant anti-sportsman, anti- target shooting, anti gun owner. This guy has been drafting bills against gun owners for years. When you look up pending NYS gun laws the clown behind many of them. Well he got booted out this November and that is good for all of NYS gun owners.

We spoke with him during the Sportsmans' March On Albany this year. He related that he used to be a gun owner, but after his teenage daughter was abducted in Pittsford and murdered, his wife made him get rid of all of his. We politely tried to make him see that all the laws in the world wouldn't bring his daughter back, and that the gun that killed her was , IIRC, stolen. His world changed drastically, which is understandable to a degree, and he was immovable in his "guns are bad, period" stance. I think he held that line hard for his wife, and out of principle, which I have to respect. And, while he was decidedly anti-gun, he also did try to get some things done, including being a big part of the gang that wanted to get Sheldon Silver ( who is 70% of the problem in Albany) out of the Maj Leader's seat.

Where on earth did you hear she was involved in illegal activities? Her rape and death were part of a gang initiation when she was carjacked/kidnapped out of a suburban plaza at 10am on a Saturday morning.
I have to say, Koon was not helpful to the rights of legal firearms owners and his proposed legislation no doubt did set us back. And it is a shame the violent loss of his daughter caused him to have tunnel vision against all firearms. That being said, I have had experience working with him on children's rights and have found him to be an otherwise reasonable person who is dedicated and kind. He used the loss of his daughter to end the suffering of other parent's to the best of his ability. He is extremely active in children's rights and not just present at events where the press are to get good PR. I don't think painting him to be an evil bastard is appropriate. Having him out of politics is a very sad loss to ending the exploitation of kids although it is a win for gun owners. When it comes to Koon I have very mixed feelings. I don't feel he would have looked at me as evil for being pro-2nd amendment, and I respect him for that. I feel over time he could have been reached to be more sympathetic to law abiding gun owners.
Just because he and I disagree on something I feel very strongly about I won't say he is a bad guy to suit my agenda.

Mr. Smurfette, your right. Mr Koon is really a great pro gun hero. I wonder why I donate extra money to SCOPE and the NRA to fight his firearm bills of he is such a good guy? Have a nice day.

I don't believe that for a moment. A lawyer in defense of his clients could introduce the possibility of the victim being a less than stellar citizen to lower the chance of jury sympathy. It doesn't make it true, it introduced reasonable doubt. In this case, not reasonable in my opinion. It's up there with a rape victim asking for it, I'm not buying. I wish things in life were always black and white, and in regards to politics my dislike of candidates generally taints my view of them completely, but not this time.

    His anti-2A stance aside...

One of the HUGE things that Koon pushed was the ability to track 911 calls via GPS. It has saved countless lives - I've seen it firsthand. It has also proved to be an excellent investigative tool. It was used to successfully prosecute someone who murdered a friend in front of her children nearly two years ago. For that, I am grateful.

But it's often said that it takes several good deeds to cancel out one bad one. I had the "pleasure" of dealing with him and getting caught in the fallout of one of his publicity stunts about ten years ago. That one incident left a bad taste in my mouth about David Koon.

His karma with me is about even right now.
