I live in New York City. But i hunt in upstate NY. I was thinking about purchasing my own shotgun and keeping it at a friends place which is also upstate. Will gun stores give me problems if i try to buy a shotgun with a drivers license that shows that i live in New York City. I do not want to go and shell out a lot of money to get a NYC shotgun/rifle permit if i am not going to store any guns down here anyway. Any advice would be appreciated.

i dont believe there's anything illegal about it, i guess its up to the store policy. but even so, you may attract attention. probably safer to do a private sale. NYPD spot checks - AR15.COM |

I don't think you would have any problem with buying a shotgun and keeping it upstate. Rochester has a prohibition on possesing AR-15s, but I've never been to a gunstore that wouldn't sell someone an AR because of there address. The law is not about city residents owning an AR, but about the possesion of an AR by anyone inside city limits.
