    Default Turkey hunting information

Since I got pretty serious about starting to hunt turkey next spring I've been looking for info online. I'll put anything useful I find here and add to the thread occasionally.

New York State DEC turkey hunting page:
    http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/8366.html

Turkey season dates by area (map)
    http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/29461.html

    Turkey hunting regulations:
    http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/32162.html

A PDF with all of the above info plus more including identification of a hen and tom

Great post! I'll be a student of Larry Bean, owner of Memory Maker Game Calls soon after the new year! I can't wait!

Post up any info you want to share in here.

I think learning to call is my top priority. I got a gun to use and know I need to get some camo. I have some calls but need to learn how to use them. I mentioned to my girlfriend that a DVD on how to call would be a good xmas gift

Besides that, I need places to hunt. I have a friend up in the Fort Drum area that has access to land and will hunt with me and a coworker that said he would take me to the place he goes. All private land from what I gather.

Yes he does and lucky for me, he's about 400 or so yards away from my house!

When I was at the Barnes and Noble in Pittsford Plaza I saw a great Turkey hunting book there full of diagrams on how to work certain situations and it just explained a lot to me. I'm going to have to go back there and buy it after the new year...

When it comes to reading books I have the attention span of a goldfish. You read it and explain it to me

Or I could just watch dvds.

There's a hunting show on either the outdoor channel or VS. I'm guessing it's on every week and it's put on by the National Wild Turkey Federation. I forget the name but I caught it for the first time yesterday.

I have the same attention span, but this one really kept my attention!

As for the hunting show, it's called "Turkey Call" and it's hosted my Rob Keck(sp?) ex CEO of the NWTF. I've got my DVR to record the HD shows! Unfortunately 90% of the shows are reruns...

I keep a Diaphragm call in my car and every now and then, I practice at work! I drive everyone crazy, being from the city they all thought turkeys just go gooble-gooble, literally!

That's where I learned. On the road for work, practicing all the way.
