I guess they're building a house on the land where I used to hunt so no more shooting stuff there My dad found a new spot for us on his friend's land so my dad, me and his friend are going squirrel hunting Sunday. They're using .22s but I might go with my 16GA. Haven't decided yet. I'll post up my results on Sunday night.

I've already scoured the internet looking for a way to hunt squirrel with the .223. My final conclusion was there is no way to do it without making the thing explode into a smoking ball of fur and animal parts.
I don't even know if it's legal. Some states won't let you hunt small game with a center fire rifle.

I shot at 2 squirrels. Missed both I also saw some turkeys. Pretty cool to be that close to them. Both were hens. They saw me and took off though.

The first one was. He jumped up on a rotten log about 20 feet from me. My scope was on 9x so he filled the entire sight picture. No idea how I missed unless it shoots really high that close. It's sighted in for 50 yards.

I had the 10/22. The 16ga would have vaporized the squirrel at that distance.
After I shot he climbed a tree and taunted me. I couldn't shoot up in the air since there are houses within bullet distance. Don't need a .22 round coming down in someone's house. He eventually came down and ran away but I never had a clear shot.
