Alphecca Handguns and Checked Baggage
I traveled to Florida and back over the last few days and shipped my revolver in my checked baggage (declared, natch). The handgun was in the required locked hard-shell container. I always padlock the container and then secure the container to the metal frame of the suitcase using the factory-supplied cable lock. This extra cable lock prevented the theft of my revolver.
When I returned to San Antonio last night and pulled my baggage off the conveyor belt, I discovered my suitcase had been opened and some individual had attempted to remove the hard-shell case. The cable lock prevented the theft.
Securing the handgun container to the suitcase frame may be common knowledge to experienced CHL travelers, but not intuitively obvious to new CHL holders who wish to travel to other locations by air. It may be worth mentioning to new CHL holders so we can reduce the risk of our handguns being stolen and sold on the street to gang-bangers.
