Ruger GP100

How does the crew feel about it? I want to add a revolver to my collection and the GP100 looks sexy. I handled it the other day and it felt so nice, not as heavy as i thought it would be, and the fit/finish is really good. Ofcourse id love to get a S&W but my LGS carries mostly Ruger when it comes to revolvers and i would want an pre-lock one anyway, looking for the 586/686. Anyway back to the issue at hand, what do u guys think? anyone own one and have some gun porn to add to this topic? Let me kno.

I really like them. Have shot a few. Of course they are built like a Ruger (ie a tank). I also wanted to add a revolver. I was going to get the GP100 but I found a security six that was made in my birth year for a good price so I bought that instead.

I picked up a gently used GP about six months ago, one of the best buys yet. Love this gun. IMO the Ruger GP100 is one of the best .357 revolvers ever made. My brother in law has the S&W 686, cost a hell of a lot more of mine and the Ruger wins hands down. Firing this gun could not be easier, kick back is less than most of my 40 cals. feels very "right" in hand and when shooting. I am simply sold on Ruger revolvers. They are comfy, easy to shoot and reek of quality. Anyone in the market for a .357 revolver should take a hard look at Ruger.

Like it alot.... The most interesting one I ever shot was one chambered in 9mm... as stated they are well made ad you will be happy....

You sure it was not a SP100 or security six? I have never head of a 9mm GP100.

I bought my gp100 back in february. Ever since i got it my .40 and .45 have sat in the safe a lot longer than they used to.

The only thing i changed was the front sight out with a hi-viz.

I have to say that i like it better than my semi autos. I especially like that i don`t have to search through the weeds trying to find my brass with a revolver.

Thanks guys this did help. I think i had my mind set on it but needed some affirmation from some other gun guys. I heard that they were built like tanks, my friend who is my gun supplier (owns the gun shop i deal with) sed to me if i was buying .357 that GP100 was the only thing hed sell me LOL. Ive been sold on Ruger brand since i purchased my sr1911, its been rock solid. So i guess im buying a GP100 in the next month or so

After i uploaded the picture i was wondering the same thing. I only fired once to get this picture, The camera battery was almost dead and in my rush to get the picture i forgot to put ear plugs in. One mistake i will not make again.

Congrats on deciding to go with the Gp100. I just got mine thursday and shot it friday. They are heavy duty machines

I'll take a Ruger revolver over a Smith any day of the week. Matter of fact, I have, several times, but like an idiot, I sold them.

ruger's also just released the sp101 with a 4.2" barrel. i know it's built on a smaller frame and has a slightly different intended purpose, but it's something else to consider if looking for a stainless ruger .357 magnum. as stated above, they're built like tanks and are arguably better than the offerings of some pricier brands in many ways.

I think I figured it out. The camera gave you a very slow shutter speed. When the shutter went off, the trigger was back and this is what "burned in" for the primary exposure . Then the hammer dropped and the gun fired. The muzzle flash gave it's own light and became the second part of your exposure. It's really two photos taken within a short period of time. That would explain the gun appearing to fire but the trigger being back in the cocked position.

I bought one from BGC about 2 months ago. What a great revolver. I have put about 100 rounds through it and just love it. By far the best revolver that I have ever owned.I removed the original grips and put a set of wood grips from Hogue. I really like the looks and feel of the wood. Good luck with your decision.

Do check out the SP101, a really good option depending on what you are looking for. I have bigger hands so I changed the grips and now it has a great feel and balance.
