Default New BUG and my first revolver.

Well since I completely hate my Ruger LCP, I decided to give using a revolver as a BUG and/or primary for dresswear. I picked up this S&W 340 in .357Mag w/ XS Big Dot Tritium front sight. I haven't shot it yet, but it's super comfy to carry (appendix). I still have to get over the fact that there is a gun pointed right at my junk. (Get your head out of the gutter Chris Fry.)

Nice. I got a new S&W for a backup too, but mine's a tiny 380. The only revolver I am willing to try (after hating most of them that I have tried) is the Rhino 6". Mostly because it looks like something out of Blade Runner or Firefly.

This thing is so light, it's unbelievable. I can't imagine it being very fun to shoot on a regular basis lol

Mike - nice acquisition! What are you going with for ammo? My Smith 337 AirLite Titanium packs the Speer Gold Dot "short barrel" 135 grainers most of the time. They offer it for the 357mag too.

A set of Hogue Monogrips will tame the recoil pretty good during trips to the range, I use these on my 642. The Uncle Mikes boot grips that came with the 642 go back on when it gets carried.

I have the 637, and it's brutal to put 50 rounds through, almost painful. Those Hogue Monogrips work pretty well?

Sorry to hear you didn't like your LCP. I was just the opposite... I tried my brothers 442 and just didn't care for it. I didn't like the trigger on it. I prefer the trigger on my LCP. The 442 was the first revolver I've ever shot and I've heard it takes time to get used to them. I'm not giving up on them, but I think I'm going to get something a little bigger to practice with before moving to something smaller. I know the .380 doesn't have the same ballistics, but I'm sticking with the LCP for now.

Glad you like your new purchase though. It's one nice looking gun!

I think they're well worth it, a J-frame snubbie is never going to be fun to shoot factory ammo with. If you reload its a great gun to make mouse-fart rounds for, then you can shoot all day without worrying about recoil.

As I told you earlier I have the same gun Mike. Mine has the CT Laser Grips and I don't find it all that bad to shoot. Like Gunner I also carry Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel 135gr ammo in mine in 357 Magnum.

I'm surprised you mention the trigger on the LCP. It is the most disgusting trigger I've ever shot. There isn't even a real reset on it LOL. You have to extend the trigger all the way out for it to reset.

The LCR and LCP triggers do not have a reset that is easily used. I've shot them and although the press part of the trigger cycle is not that bad, the reset part is like two squirrels fighting in a metal bucket

    But that's just my opinion

Mike showed me this piece a week or so ago and if I had the extra $$$ I would get one myself, very very nice. I am a big fan of the snubs and while they can beat you up a little, like any gun, with time you get used to it.

RE Reset: Considering the context in which a BUG will probably be deployed is "reset" a necessary/desirable feature?

Understandable point Chris, but I've found that if the reset is not crisp, then the trigger itself is not that great. A nice smooth trigger goes a long way to better accuracy and reliability.

    IMHO

Talk about going of half cocked! Just don't get to cocky.
Any effort to rationalize the use of this revolver in a serious combative scenario is evidence of intellectual bankruptcy.

I agree, the reset isn't like what you'd find on a Glock, XD or M&P. I think it's like that since there are no real safeties on it. In order to achieve the long trigger pull the reset has to be way out there too. I know it's not for everyone, but it works for me.

I shoot my LCP well. I dont bother looking for the front sight, it's invisible anyway, and I just mash the sh!t outta the trigger seven times, and then count holes in the cardboard bad guys.

Mike - Since you hate your LCP so much, you will sell it to me for half of what you paid. Then I will have two LCPs.

I have a Ruger LCR... I like it...

I've shot a ultra light S&W .38 and hated it... Hurts too much...

My favorite revolver to shoot though is a Ruger SP101 with the 2.25 Barrel... The ONLY downside to it is the weight... But if you run out of ammo you can crush someones skull with it...

    That's my kinda pistol...lol

    Mike,

    I also have the same S&W 340 - with the S&W (CT) laser-grips. I love it - I carry it every day.

What are you using for a holster? Do you like it?

I tried a few different holsters, and I'm still looking for something better. I bought a Milt Sparks Summer Special 2, and I'm not that fond of it.

Agreed. I hated it on my girlfriends gun and so did she. Got rid of it for a Kahr.

You got yourself anice wheel gun though. Not usually a fan of revolvers but that looks like a nice little gun.

    Nice Flame Thrower Mike.

It has to be a dream to carry. Let us know how she shoots.
