When I changed my home owners I asked, its not to much but they want serial numbers.

Thats not somethign they need to know. Insurance companies are up there with banks as far as vileness goes. I have little to no trust in them.

I went with the ArmsCare Plus for the following
    - everything is unscheduled/no ser. #'s (unless you declare an individual value >$2500)
    - $100 deductible
    - covers them in your vehicle
    - covers accessories (scopes, rings, mounts, slings and sling swivels, which are attached to the insured firearm)

I found a few links about canceled policies, but none about the Ins Co. sending a Sheriff. Could this just be an inflated example of a canceled policy?

This is what I did, I think we upped the rider last year to more than $10k but can't remember how much.

Just got a quote from State Farm for my trap guns. They want the serial #'s, and I guess I have to comply. $118 / year for $10k "personal items policy". They said it would be cheaper than a rider. No deductable and covers anything that happens to them anywhere (like I drop it on the concrete).

Now that is pretty impressive. And idea if it would cover reloading mishaps? Not that I have any of those, of course!

    I don't reload, so....

But, I would guess they'd be covered if the load damaged the bbl.
